so when you and your girlfriend/boyfriend or wife/husband have an argument how do you solve it? do you try to talk it out after a few hours? or do you wait a few days?

when you are with someone you really care about, you need to have rules of engagement. it may sound silly, but having rules WHILE arguing is very important. also, it is important to know your partner. some people like to deal with the issue ASAP and some people just need some cooling off period before coming back to the table. the key is to resolve it and not wait too long.

I have disagreements, but do not argue with my gf and it's b/c we are very compatible and we understand each other very well. But we have rules and we resolve our disagreements ASAP.

It depends. If it's a petty thing we usually deal with it & reach a compromise. If it's more complicated or someone is overly emotional we may delay talking about it until the upset person calms down.

As my husband once explained to someone, based on our respective backgrounds & training, we both only understand one way to fight: to the death. Him literally from the military & me figuratively based on my competitive profession. Since we both understand that about each other & we both know that all's fair in love & war if the situation is too hostile the calmer person backs off so that nobody says anything they will regret later. That doesn't always work & we have had 1-2 nasty fights over the years but it's mostly harmonious.
