Slap your self twice to make sure you're not dreaming...

The best things in life come when you least expect them. Take it easy, don't spoil her and you'll be fine.

It's only a dream if you wake up

It's not a dream.

However you do need to breath & slow down a bit.

We're all happy for you that the girl you have been dating agreed to be exclusive.

Now be cool. Show interest -- listen when she talks, care about what she has to say & make eye contact. But don't smother her. You do not have to text 100X per day. You do not have to be glued at the hip. You both can & should pursue independent interests.

Enjoy.

There are various tests you can perform to check if you're dreaming or not. Pinching yourself doesn't work, but the following do.

Try to poke your index finger through the palm of the other hand. In a dream your finger will go straight through whereas in reality it (obviously) won't.

Look at your watch. If you can't read it, it's probably a dream (digits are hard to read in dreams). If you can read it, look away and look at it again. Does it tell the same time? In dreams the time on a watch or clock will change completely between looks, but in reality it will only be a few seconds different.

Close your mouth, and hold your nose. Try to breathe. If you can breathe as normal, you're dreaming.

OP, just reading your post titles, should you even be in a relationship right now? A gf is not some magic bullet solution to a better life. Relationships take work, have stresses all their own, and add a lot of complexity to life. You may need to address all your underlying mental issues before venturing into this territory.

Seems to me like you're vulnerable and desperate. You might want to slow down. So let's say you get REALLY invested in this girl because you've been so "suicidal" about not having a girlfriend...and then lets say she dumps you in 2 months because you're too clingy? Yeah, you're going to be at rock bottom. Take it slow; however, I would suggest getting your mental state in line before even thinking about a girlfriend.

Please read this and keep it in mind. I'm worried for you OP. First GF rarely ever works out perfectly so if you couldn't take not having a GF I hope you'll be better when she breaks up with you because that hurts way more than not being able to get a GF. Take it slow and work on yourself also please, life is great and a GF just makes it a bit better but it's not and shouldn't ruin your life.

Yay! Enjoy.

however, the psych student in me wants to tell you that the suicide thoughts were not only related to not having a girlfriend.

They may go away for now because it's new, but they'll come back for another reason.

See your doctor, maybe?
