Live_wire Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I think at some point in my late teens, I started to realize I was being treated preferentially by people. I could get certain favors that others could not, or would never dare ask for. I recall when I was in college, I would ask my (female) teaching assistant for "clarification" on a particular exam question. Instead of rephrasing the question for me, the teaching assistant would just tell me the answer. I recall this happened several times, and I became less and less reserved about asking for "clarification." Sometimes, the teaching assistant would just lose sight of her professionalism and would tell me an exam answer in front of other students. Needless to say, these other students were quite shocked. I'm not sure why, but it's dawned on me that I have long been granted this type of preferential treatment and it has probably made a little bit lazier than others, without my realizing it. Can others identify with this?
