Well, after being in NC or about 10 weeks (and feeling better for it), I had a text out of the blue from the ex earlier this week...

She asked how I was and we exchanged a few texts, just small talk really. When I asked how she was her reply was along the lines of could be better, and that was it. For those brief messages it was as though nothing had happened between us.

This was a few days ago, I've since gone back into my 'NC shell'.

My story is on my other thread, basically she did a disappearing act on me a few months ago, never got any explanation to the breakup having been together for 6 months.

This (surprisingly) hasn't stirred me up too much, but has left me wondering why she suddenly now contacts me to make small talk...??

Know people will probably say is shouldn't have replied, but wondered what others would make of this and what, if anything, I should do now..?? :)

First of all, she didn't break your No Contact by messaging you. You broke your own No Contact by responding. No Contact is an individual thing, not a two-person thing. As for what you should do now, do nothing. Unless she says that she's made a mistake and wants a second chance, there's no point in trying to figure out her motives. If her motives are reconciliation, she'll make that abundantly clear.

I've experienced some disappearances in the past. and some of them suddenly initiated contact. even after 3 years.

But I always insisted that the re-communication starts from the exact moment it stopped. meaning - She has to explane why did she disappeare first thing, and only then i could talk about other things.

YOU SHOULD HAVE ANSWER IN THE FIRST PLACE: "if you want to me to reply, first explain your disappearance
