Recently met a cute, smart, and independent girl on an online dating site. We started talking 3 weeks ago and have talked and texted everyday since (maybe a little too much!!) We live an hour away from each other and our first date was on a Wednesday over dinner. We both talked openly over dinner and had a great time. Before I made it half way home she texted me that she had a great time and wanted to meet up again. We met the following Saturday and decided to do something out of the box by going karting (her idea by the way). We talked and cut up all night and had a few drinks afterwards. Another great date. She was traveling for work the next week, but suggested we have dinner on her way home which we did. We agreed to meet up Saturday and this is where it started to spiral downward. I arrived mid morning to pick her up and she was dressed to go out on the town while I had planned to go for a hike to a waterfall. I suggested we could do something else, but she insisted she would change and we would go hiking. Lunch at the hiking lodge was not very good and see didn't seem to enjoy the hike to the falls although she was a good sport. We then left and went to a wine tasting and browsed thru some local shops. She seemed to thoroughly enjoy both of those. We went into the city for dinner that evening, but not a whole lot was said. I stayed with her that night, but both of us were exhausted and no moves were made. The next morning I felt that the spark was no longer there as it had been the previous day. We texted each other, but they were shorter in nature and less frequent. I sent her a text the next day telling her how much I liked her, but I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. She replied that she liked me as well, but she felt something was missing. She suggested we still see each other, but not try to predict what was going to happen. We talked in length tonight and we both agreed that we might have spent too much time together, talked too much, and moved things along too quickly. We are planning on taking a weekend off and doing something the following weekend. My question is whether or not this is a realistic approach or if the damage has been done. I like her a lot and would like to salvage what I think is a good thing. Thanks.

Go on another! It's like job applications...don't dwell on just one.

Serial dater response ^

As for the OP - you should get more personal now, talk about things that were previously off limits to build a relationship.

All first initial meetings fizzle out if you keep it on a "basic" setting.

Not every date is going to go like it was scripted by a romance novelist. She may have been looking forward to the night on the town when you went hiking. Do a date like that & don't be overly concerned about the date that wasn't so great.

Be romantic. Bring her a flower. Hold her hand. Pull out her chair.
