I am sure this happens a lot - you start chatting with someone online, you mesh well, they are kind, nice, attentive - you think they must be sweethearts in person, possibly even "too nice".

Then you meet and they are nothing like you thought they were going to be like.

Loud talkers (everyone in the place can hear them blathering) drama fueled, chaos etc.

Had this happen tonight - we spoke online for over a week and OMG was she a completely different animal in person. Its funny because for the past 2 days I was trying to think up an excuse to postpone the date, and eventually not go out with her at all because she was so timid online.

We meet up and she went from the timid bunny I knew online to a full fledged wildebeest in person!

This is actually the second time this has happened, and they were both in their early 30's.

Does this happen to you guys as well?

My way of dealing with this is to spend as little time as possible in the build-up so you're not let down if the in-person presentation fails. A handful of emails, one phone conversation just to hear what she sounds like and confirm that she's not a complete lunatic, and then set up the brief, low-commitment meet and greet.

I personally have had the same experiences. I don't know if it is a phenomenon or just a generation thing. Dating was easier 10 years ago in my opinion.
