Sometimes "work" is an escape from the reality of thier life. My Step Dad worked 6 Am til 7pm, 6 days a week. Spent his hours locked at the TV set from 7pm til 8 30. Never showed that he cared about the family...TIL****** He had a heart attack at 45. The Doctors put him on meds and he was DENIED working more then 6 hours per day . (He was salary and his work place was concerned that they pushed him too much). He changed in those years since...He became a Family man, actually cared about the home, took up some hobbies and learned to LIVE life. Matter of fact, he started to dread his work place.....He would often sit down at the table and during prayers make a heartfelt statement that involved the family. It takes a Critical moment to wake up some folks...that work is the gravy and the family is the entire menu :) ( gee I think I must be hungary to be making food comments!)

The Family is impacted ...Making it work may take a life changing scenario.

I am sorry I have not read your other thread. Does he have bipolar disorder? It sounds like he is manic.

He hasn't been diagnosed with it.

HR needs approval from a JUDGE to give your H an out of cycle raise?

That's BS or a gross misunderstanding.

Your H is a workaholic. You're not unreasonable and we each have our own life to live.

I think it's BS too. It's possible that he misunderstood but I asked if they said those exact words and he said yes.

I told him they were lying and he said I was calling him a liar....

That's the part that really gets me upset. He can take a simple statement and turn it into something else. I can say something like "Looks like it's going to rain" and he would reply with "I'm not cheating!" (fyi: this is just an example of how out of place he responds to things.) Seems like it always circles back to being about him and how I'm "attacking" him.

I can't do anything normal or nice. If I make him a steak dinner for no reason then he will ask me ten times if I put poison in it. He could be joking (I can't tell) but it's still hurtful.

Based on past instances, this is the only way he really realizes anything. He wouldn't listen to me or his family when we were telling him that he was doing the same to his past company. He swore up and down that he was getting "loyalty" from them for working so hard. Then the next thing you know he's fired.

Your story is sad to read. It's obvious that your husbands problems are much bigger than you or he can deal with. If he is not open to seekin help and you are not open to leaving, I suggest you accept that you are living with a irrational, mentally ill person, avoid taking his outbursts personally, and take steps to protect your children.
