Big Timmy Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 im currently 6'2 and weigh around 228 lbs...is this healthy? or should i lose some more wieght? because i know folks my height who weigh a couple of pounds more than me, but you dont see them as being fat, but i seem fat becasue i dropped down from 266 a year ago, and i guess i have to tone that skin into muscle or something, although i play basketball as much as possible... any tips? continue losing weight? tone up? do i weigh ok?. etc....
liono Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 my guess would probably be a regular cardio schedule. Like jogging.
sophia34 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 For most people, measuring body mass index (BMI) is a good indication of whether or not they need to lose weight. (The only folks it doesn't work for are endurance athletes with extremely high muscle mass.) BMI takes your height and inches and weight and gives you back a number. Anything between 18 and 25 is considered a healthy weight. Anything 25 to 30 is considered overweight. Anything above 30 is severely overweight. You can find a BMI calculator online--just put "BMI Calculator" into Google. I threw your numbers in and it came up 29.3. If you have a lot of muscle, that number might not be bad. If not, then you might want to look into an exercise program and change your diet. The previous person mentioned jogging. I would add to that a 2-to-3 times a week strength training program. The more muscle you have, the more weight you'll lose.

sophia34 Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I don't know where my head was--I meant to also add that a 40-pound weight loss is EXTREMELY impressive! That's an accomplishment right there! Since basketball got you that far, you might keep right on doing it. You were obviously doing something right! If basketball no longer interests you (or if the season is over if you play on a team), then just choose an equivalent alternative. Again, congratulations on losing the 40 pounds! That's a big deal and you should be proud of what you've already done.
herbalyyys Posted January 30, 2005 Posted January 30, 2005 i agree!! Kudos to you for losing it! you can try raquetbal(ithink thats the one in a really small HOT room where ya hit it off the wall) You REALLY can work up a sweat in there and get cardio going.
