agnf666 Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Anyone on a diet that actually is helping you lose wieght. I was on a Low Carb diet for a while. It was hard but I worked at it. So, do any off you know off a good diet plan????
sophia34 Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 I know this is going to sound smart aleck, but the best diet plan is, "Eat less, exercise more." There is no other way to do it. That said, I have to say that the formal diet plan that adheres most to that simple rule of thumb is Weight Watchers. I haven't done it personally, but I have several friends who have had great success with WW. Its basic principle is the same as what all the common sense advice tells you--watch your calories and your portion size and exercise to lose weight. But they give you a points system, so it's easier to watch what you eat. It also allows you to plan for treats, so you can eat the kinds of foods you like, as long as you stay within your "points" (calorie budget).
StillHurtin Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 I was one of those Phen-Phen users years ago and my doctor recommended that I eat only 1500 calories a day (5'5 and 155 lbs at the time). He didn't mention anything about fat but I have read in several different health magazines not to go over 30% of fat a day. It's a pain to count calories and fat but it does work. And get at least 20-30 minutes of excerise at least 3 days a week. Try fitday.com. I love that site! You can keep track of your calories, fats, carbs, protein, there and it also has other neat things.
Karen75 Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 You should be shooting for ratios of approx. 40/40/20 40% Protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat. Got to fitday.com and start inputting your food so you can get a look at where you are. When eating, try to aim more for nutrient dense food rather than empty calories. No regular soda, carbs should be good carbs, sweet potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal. Make the fats GOOD fats such as nuts, olive oil in cooking, etc. You can take a flax seed oil supplement, too. You could look into "Eating Right for Your Type" This is based on your blood type and has worked well for many people.. Good luck!! K
BurningBright Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 I was put on pills once before that made me gain a lot of weight. Once I got off them, a lot of the weight dropped off too;however, there was still about 15-20 pounds extra that just wasn't going anywhere. All I've done is this. Changed all my "white's" to "brown's" (meaning breads, pasta's, rice, etc. ).. Snack on vegetables, decrease the amount and kinds of meat I eat. (I stick with mainly chicken and turkey now.. and at most twice a week). The meat issue can be troublesome for some ppl (leading to anemia, etc.. due to a lack of iron). I just make sure I eat nuts, legumes, etc. with my "brown carbs" to make a incomplete protein. That way I'm still getting all my needed protein and iron. I also make my foods spicy. That way it forces me to drink a ton of water!!!!! (ie/ cayen pepper on popcorn, dried chili flakes in my vegetable soup) Oh and this may seem surprising, but I still have my daily morning coffee (but made with skim milk). After all of this, and taking a 20min walk almost 3-4times per week, I have dropped 15 pounds in a little less then 6 months. Hope some of these tips help! ~BurningBright
Author agnf666 Posted January 23, 2005 Author Posted January 23, 2005 Has anyone tried Curves??? I have been thinking about joining them. Since it is a plan type deal and it will keep me on track. Just want to know if people actually lose wieght on the curves diet...
Chrono721 Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Not sure if that's how you spell it, but ever heard of the Atkin's diet? This is where you have a low carb diet. Basically, you eat a lot more meat, but cut down on carbs like bread, grains, and especially pasta. What happens is that when you eat the meat, you absorb the fat. But, without the carbs, the fat cannot change to get incorperated into your body, therefore not turning into body fat. All you have to do now is watch your Colesterol (REALLY BAD SPELLING TODAY!!! ARGH!!). It has worked with my dad's workers. -Chrono721
