However, they left out a few lines that really tie the entire quote together...and it becomes a much more powerful quote. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. I don't want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. What kind of fun would it be if I just got everything I ever wanted just like that, and it didn't mean anything? What then? Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly. There are so many fragile things, after all. People break so easily, and so do dreams and hearts. Sometimes we can choose the paths we follow. Sometimes our choices are made for us. And sometimes we have no choice at all. Face your life, its pain, its pleasure, leave no path untaken. Only the phoenix rises and does not descend. And everything changes. And nothing is truly lost. If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained. Even nothing cannot last forever. Write your story as it needs to be written. Write it honestly and tell it as best you can. I'm not sure that there are any other rules. Not ones that matter. Not only are there no happy endings, there aren't even any endings. You know how is it when you love someone? And the hard part, the bad part, the Jerry Springer Show part is that you never stop loving someone. There's always a piece of them in your heart. Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts.
