Well I've never cared much for valentines day, and I use to have a fiery hate for it.

But my problem is, this Friday, which is valentines day and ill be going to a dentist appointment in the morning, then off to my granddads gun store where I work every weekend. On Friday night, while everyone who has somebody is out doing something, ill be sitting on my ass watching stupid tv with my granddad. It's boring and that's all there is to do besides eat, study, do stuff on my phone.

If y'all are wondering why I'm at my grandparents, it's because it's nearby by the store, I work Saturdays, and my main house (where I'm at during the weekdays when I'm not working) is 35-40 minutes away, so I'm not going to make that back and forth drive just to work.

So what do I do? I don't want to be the sorry chump sitting at his grandparents on Friday night watching probably the military channel while I assume most other people are out having a good time? My brother & his gf and my dad and his wife will be out doing stuff.

I would say the clearest path to V-day being a non-issue is lots of life experience. Sure worked great for me. I can think of all the decades past of brain time, hand time and forethought I gave and can laugh about it now, and just did. Folly of the young. A gift for the few. Life goes on.

When I was single, or during my last crappy relationship? Two words: Haagen Dazs.

Last V-day I was freshly heartbroken from my break up. I forced myself to go out.

I found a 'meet up' group and went to happy hour with them. I actually had a great time.

Why does it have to be V day? why can't it just be a Friday night?

I'm going to be spending it like any other Friday. Go to work, maybe shop a bit go home, maybe go out, maybe stay in.

I don't get why there has to be so much hype in it. Yeah we're single, yes it's v'day but it's technically just another Friday! Only advertising and people make such a big deal out of it. You don't have to do anything special it's technically just another Friday.

It's like Hallowe'en you don't have to go out and trick or treat or dress up or party you can spend it like any other day. So what if you know people are out trick or treating or doing all that lovey dovey stuff on v day. It's a choice you don't have to do anything if you don't want to and you definitely can choose not to be down cause people are being crazy spending their money like the shops want them to, to impress.

I'm pretending it doesn't exist and that for me it is an ordinary Friday, i won't let myself as a big hopeless romantic focus on it and get gloomy :( yet another non-romantic valentines for me it seems.

Cap'n Morgan and coke.

Seriously tho.....go to a bar on Vday. You'll notice theres A LOT of single people from both genders that are .....just as miserable for lack of better terms...as you!

Friday is chest day for me, so I figure I'll release some endorphins and generally feel like a beast and not worry about Valentine's day. At least that's what I hope will happen...

I will be anxiously awaiting 6:00 am on Saturday morning to get the best deals on candy. That's when the first grocery store opens. The other one opens at 7:00 am...

I love February 15th!! :bunny:

Plus I already did the whole St. Valentine's thing with my CCD class on Sunday and for me that's really what the day is about anyway....the main guy

Just by not caring about it.

On the 14th, I will be at home sleeping.

I'll be spending it listening to my coworkers complaining about being at work on VD. Fine by me. I know it seems like everyone is celebrating but there are probably just as many that aren't.

How not to spend it miserable and angry? EASY. Don't stay inside all mopey and grumpy allowing yourself to be miserable and angry.

Couldn't help but notice you are in my neck of the woods. Since you're in Southlake... I GUARANTEE you there is a large metroplex nearby where you can probably go out on a Friday night and find something to do!

You won't be the ONLY SINGLE person out and about. Trust me. I am certain there will be plenty of single ladies out too. So why not be daring, go find a sports bar, sit at the bar watching some games.. have a few drinks... then find an approachable gal to talk to.

If anything.. all the mushy wushy couples aren't going to be out at sports bars/hang outs on Valentines night so if even if you don't find someone to take your mind off your current heartbreak/anger... at least its better than sitting home. :) Just a thought.

I don't see it as any other day. Friday night is housework/takeout night with loud music - just like every other Friday. I'm usually tired after the work week. I like to go out on Saturday night instead. :bunny:

I went to the grocery store on Black Friday. :lmao:

I got bags of Dove chocolates for 25 cents!! I paid $3.99 for those for all of December.

And I got these Richardson mints for a quarter and Nestle bells for a quarter....

They had no Reese's :/

I think if not having anyone to be with on valentine's day is enough to elicit serious feelings of anger or depression then you probably haven't had enough real suffering in your life.

Interesting point, at least that is something to be thankful for Gaius.

By looking at Grumpy Cat's Valentine memes, they are so hilarious :lmao:

I've never cared about Valentine's Day, though. Being alone during the x-mas season makes me sadder than not getting anything for Valentine's Day.

In my player days I used to try and go out alone and check out the laundromats located close to a bar and look for a single woman doing her laundry. Then give her the line from Bob Segar's "We've Got Tonight" and it worked several times

I know it sounds corny, but I like to think of Valentine's Day as being about love of all kinds, not just romantic - love for your family, friends, self, cat.

Do something nice for yourself and your grandpa, even if it's just ordering a pizza.

Agreed there. I hate Xmas so making it a non-holiday is ok by me, but it's New Years alone that really gets me. WAY more brutal than Valentines day.

I just had a conversation with a woman on OKC, and her biggest worry is that she is going to be a lone on Valentines day...talk about flaky in your 40s
