BikerAccnt Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 meaning late 40's, early 50's. Now, this may be a stupid question, seeing as I'm a guy, and am not attracted to other guys. I was at a my step sisters house last night fora party. she's about my age, 53, and she is also OLDing. We were talking about this and that and the subject of OLD came up. She was mentioning that a lot of the guys she received emails from are really out of shape or look much older than they actually are. I asked her how she meant. She said, let me show you. So she showed me her dating profile and some of the people who had sent her email. (she didn't show me the actual email, nor did I ask to see them.) Either she is getting the dregs of OLD society, or there really are a lot of guys my age that are really out of shape! Do you ladies find that most of the older guys that message you are badly out of shape/don't take care of themselves? I was actually kind of shocked. I mean, I'm a guy and wouldn't cut these guys slack. Comon, comb your hair and fix your teeth at least! I try to take care of myself, am weight height appropriate, but, I guess looking at society around me I shouldn't be surprised that many are not. My step sister is a good looking woman, about 5'4 and I'd guess at 125- 130lbs. But some of the guys that email her...wow, is all I can say. Anyway, I'm just curious ladies if that's also your experience.
Gaeta Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I am 48 years old, I have done the online dating for 2 years before I met someone serious and 'worthy'. He is 46 and in tip top shape. In my case, because I am in good shape, I look younger than 48, and lets be honest because I have big boobs and a small waist, most men messaging me were between 35 and 43. Men 50 and over rarely messaged me, those who did were so so and someone has to tell them that mustaches are OUT. I have single lady friends my age who don't want to date above 50. Mostly because of that generation of men. They're very close minded, they're from the generation of 'men don't cry', they have issues over issues, egocentric, and stuck in gender roles, etc. 1

I am not talking about 10 to 20 pounds. I am talking about 50 plus pounds. So your rant does not hold no water. As far as stable. I see so many women on the welfare train. 1
mammasita Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I know I don't fall in that age range (38)...so this may be entirely irrelevant, but I've kinda found the same in my bracket. I'm very open to dating older....I would have gone up to 48-50 honestly.....but didn't find anyone while I was looking that was attractive to me. My BF is 30.
yellowmaverick Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 In my very small circle (mostly work colleagues), it does seem that the women of this age group have taken better care of themselves than the men. Of course, we women all joke that it is because between work, home, kids, bills, etc. we simply forget to eat sometimes. For me, that actually has some truth. I work out less than my WH, am a few months older, but look a heck of a lot younger and am in better shape. My mom is one of those eternally youthful people, so maybe it's in the genes.

I'm two decades their junior and this describes me to a tee (minus the issues over issues).
KathyM Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 My sister did OLD a few years ago and reported the same thing: a lot of overweight men on there who try to hide it in their pictures, but when she meets them, she finds out their "athletic" physique is actually quite out of shape. It seems women doing OLD are often like this as well. If 2/3rds of the U.S. population are overweight, it's not surprising that many people doing OLD are also overweight. And it's not just a middle aged issue. Plenty of younger people out there who eat very unhealthy foods in unhealthy portions and are overweight.
d0nnivain Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I think both genders misrepresent themselves on line to some extent. My 1st meeting with an OLD person was eye opening. He was about 50 lbs heavier & 10 years older than his photo. It was a bit of a shock to say the least. Very few people at 40 have the same body they had at 20 & it's ridiculous to expect that but basic grooming -- bathing, combed hair, etc. -- should be a requirement.
