I would like to get both male and female perspectives. Transitioning from online to the 1st date is easy since you are already communicating through written means. So 1st date texting is fine. Even a 2nd date. But should there come a time when we call them on the phone for the 3rd date and thereafter? Or is it not a big deal? Ladies, is it any different if a guy asks you out over the phone or through text? Guys, has either approach been more successful?

If I like him, I don't care how he asks me out. :)

It depends on your choice of communication. I prefer to text.

You need to establish that with the person you're talking to, everyone is different.

Don't sweat the small stuff. You'll figure it out organically. Text. E-mail. Phone calls. In person. Etc.

I think each person is different.

Yes, each person is different. I respect the guy who will pick up the phone and ask me out because most guys just seem to text. But I do find in today's world everyone seems to prefer texting. :/

I am not crazy about talking on the phone. I've conducted entire relationships where I've spent more time on the phone to car insurance companies than my girlfriend.

The first few dates I'll ask her out via text. I will generally do this no more than a day or so after the last date. Mostly the next day - no waiting several days or a week or rubbish like that. If I'm interested I'll ask.

After the first few dates, things are normally planned in person. If I'm seeing her on a weeknight I'd make plans with her for the weekend while she's there, and so forth.

It's always worked perfectly well for me.

You should always speak on the phone before the first date. Otherwise, how do you know it's not just some dude messing around with his ex's photos, or a group of giggling schoolgirls yanking your chain?
