I dont understand the weight loss concept... Do you have to burn more calroies then you consume everyday to lose weight? so if im eating 2500 calories a day does that mean i have to burn 3000 a day to see results?

Im 15, 5'10 and like 187lbs... Im trying to shed some weight. Im active everyday and and i wonder why I have muscle covered with a layer of fat...

I recently started working out again but I dont know how much I need to do to lose the weight and how long to do it for? does anyone have any experience being around my size and having a workout routine... this is what i do

I Box/Spar for an hour a day ( I dont know if thats enough)

Do like 100 crunches

60 push ups

And Iv been eating healthy for a month so far im no longer eating pizza, fried foods and sweets... Im eating salad, pasta, fish, chicken, and steak.

Can some one please tell me what Im doing is working or not? Do i need to exercise alot more maybe like 2-3 hrs of boxing a day?

The next day i feel tighting in my my back muscles below my arms, my chest muscles, and small tension in my

abdomin, and biceps ... Is this a good sign or am i just hurting myself?

And my friend who is 17 took pro-steriods for 2 months, and worked out and stuff. And he looks really fitt he has the whole works six pack, pecks, back muscle and everything.. He stopped taking them and now just works out ( the ones they sell in gnc..) And i was wondering if thats a good diea for me but im kind of worried bc im only 15 and could harm me

Regarding your diet - with the salads, are you pouring on a lot of dressing - and if so, what are you using. There are some who drench a salad in ranch dressing and wonder why they are not losing weight. Pasta packs on a lot of calories. The typical portion sizes for pasta (and really other meals too) in restaurants are huge. It is ok to eat pasta and carbs, just think of it more as a side dish than an entree with heapfuls of pasta. Fish, chicken, and lean steak is ok. How are these being prepared - do not use too much in butter or oils, grilled is best. Be sure you also get your share of veggies too.

What do you typically drink? This is common knowledge, but be sure to get enough water per day. Since you said you cut out sweets, I assume that means sodas too. If not, then that is your problem.

As to your workout, it really sounds like that should be enough. Do your boxing/sparring sessions feel more aerobic where you are winded and sweating afterward, or do they feel like they are more anaerobic, where you don't feel very winded. If your heart rate is not getting very high, you might want to add in an occasional jog or brisk walk around your neighborhood or at the park. As to your muscles feeling tight, is it more of a tightness or soreness the day after? If the intensity of your workouts is remaining the same, you should be feeling the effects of your workout less and less each time. But if you are increasing the intensity, which you may be doing to try to stimulate weight loss, than this is normal. Your muscles actually get microscopic tears when you are exerting yourself lifting weights or with activities that heavily use your muscles. The body then repairs these tears and builds the muscle, which is what leads to muscle growth.

I would NOT mess with any steroids or supplements, especially at your age, when you are still developing. You are putting in hard work to get where you want to be. Just give it time and you will eventually get there naturally and safely, without the risks some of these supplements may come with.

Thanks for the advice... I eat my meats grilled. I dont drink Soda, I drink Water,Chocolate Soymilk, Fruit20( Flavored Water), Reduced Fat Milk, Orange juice and apple juice. And as far as salads go I use blasemic viegar or however u spell it... I dont eay any mayyonaie or thick dressings

As Far as my exercise goes im not winded, but yes im out of breath and sweating some after the workout.

And Its a tightning that I feel in muscles the next day.

Is it ok to skip a day of exercise if you feel sore and like you need rest? Because My right arm by my shoulder hs been killing me all day and i put some blue ice on it (muscle relieving cream) and it made it feel better. I dont feel like i should of skipped my exercise today

I would eat my dinner then workout for an hour after it and then in another hour im insanely hungry again... I keep getting hungry after everytime i exercise for a while. And then i feel like im starving and i have to eat and then i wind up eating... but nothing big.. like a bowl of cereal at most. is that normal or not

Your diet sounds pretty healthy. Juices are ok, definitely better than sodas, but I would try to make sure you drink around 8 cups of water, with just a few cups of your other drinks a day. I would also suggest more frequent smaller meals throughout the day, if you are not doing this already. It's much easier for the body to metabolize small amounts throughout the day, and this helps raise your metabolism level.

It is normal to not feel very hungry in the hour following exercise, but then regain your appetite after an hour or two. Carbs and proteins are good around this time. Cereal should be fine, as the milk gives you protein, and the cereal gives you the carbs. Sandwiches, grilled meats for protein, and/or fruits for carbs are good too.

You made the right choice by skipping your workout today. Working out overloads your muscles, essentially attacking them. Your muscles need some time off so that can take time to rebuild and make themselves stronger. While soreness and tightness are normal the day after a workout when you first start or return to training after a layoff, or if you are increasing your workout intensity each time, anything beyond a light soreness or tightness is not normal. If you have any muscles in a state of constant soreness or tightness, it very well could indicate you are overtraining. I would not do any exercise with your right arm until it is either not feeling any tightness at all, or at least until it is very minimal.

Two things I would also recommend to try to prevent or at least lessen tightening and soreness after the workout, if you are not doing them already:

- A warmup period of 5 minutes

- Stretching exercises after you are done with your regular workout

Warmup literally warms your muscles up before you start using them with higher intensity, helping prevent injuries. This can be just starting your boxing/sparring at a slow pace before kicking it up a notch. And stretching afterward could really help your problems with tightening up, as it sounds like your muscles are staying in a contracted or shortened state. A few minutes stretching afterwards is optimal because your muscles are already warm and are conducive to stretching. This should allow you to stretch your muscles back to their normal state. Basically, you want to stretch and hold most of your larger muscle groups for 15-20 seconds each a few times. You may want to concentrate on stretching your upper arms/shoulders next time to see if it helps.

Anyway, those are just a few ideas. I would also look for tips from any trainers at the gym who may be able to help you out. Hope this helps.
