Michelle83 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 So just trying to get some new ideas. What do you and your current S/O do on your nights together (assuming you aren't living together and are out of the brand new stage in the relationship)? I'm trying to think up some lower cost options at the moment as we're both trying to save money. Any tips/thoughts would be great.
Els Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Hey, why can't folks who are living together go out on dates? I'll shamelessly go ahead and answer anyway - when we were low on cash, we went to the beach for picnics, to the park with ice creams, to museums and art galleries (the free sort), to half-price movie night, window shopping in quaint streets, to animal parks and wetland conservatories, hiking forest trails, wandering around Asian night markets to grab a quick treat, sitting on a pier by the harbour watching the sunset. We aren't that low on funds anymore but we still do a lot of that now. It's great fun! Edit: Wait, does it specifically have to be at 'night'? And a winter night, assuming you live in the USA? 5
Eternal Sunshine Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Long drives, beach, walks in the nature, road trips with sleeping under the stars, sneaking into open air cinemas, sneaking into regular cinemas, swimming, playing tennis..there is a ton of enjoyable stuff you can do for free 2
d0nnivain Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 We almost always go out to dinner. Low cost options could include: walks, window shopping, picnics, sports (assuming you have the equipment already), ice cream, maybe a high school play if you like theater but can't afford "real" tickets to a professional show, playing board games, cooking at home together. 1
dichotomy Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Mostly dinner, drinks and a movie at home - but sometimes movie theater, going out to bars, seeing bands, an overnight at a hotel or B&B, sometimes a local party or event. We try to vary were we eat - trying new places and foods (we are foodies). 1
Author Michelle83 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks for all the replies. Yeah, summer time is definitely easier and more date friendly with all the outdoors stuff. It's still winter here (and -20-30C) so we're pretty limited to indoor activities - and I"m not one for the cold. We cook together very often, but it's more what to do before that...activity wise. We like movies but there are only so many there, so after that it's harder to think up stuff. I do like games though, although harder with just 2 players. Anyone have any good recommendations for games?
gaius Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Any MMORPG might be fun. Even the one you have to pay for, World of Warcraft, ends up being a good value for the time it keeps you entertained. You get to play a fun and entertaing game while interacting with people from all over. As odd as it sounds it can kind of be like a night out on the town. I've gotten the same feeling chatting with someone I ran into in Arathi Highlands as I did chatting with someone on my way to the Red Sox game. I knew a bunch of couples who used to play together when I was playing. Or if nerd stuff disgusts you, you can just follow Elswyth's suggestions. 2

Darts and what not. Check your municipality's events page for unique things. It may seem silly to some people but those are gold mines for low cost activities. Typically you'll find local businesses offering things to do for very low costs as a way to drive foot traffic or increase brand awareness. Good luck! 1

Anyone have any good recommendations for games? Depends on what you're looking for. If you like sitting next to each other playing on the same screen and have a console, there are heaps of console games that allow 2 players. My guy and I typically go for fighting games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc, but there are lots of other cutesy games like Mario Kart if you fancy those. If you prefer PC and don't mind playing on different computers then MMORPGs are your best bet probably, since you can do most things together. WoW is a classic staple, but there are several others like LOTRO, Guild Wars, etc. If you two are into board games or card games then those are an option too. 1
