My boyfriend and I have been dating a little over a year and a half.

He's not big on cheesyness. He'll do/say stuff that is cheesy for me, but that's because it is for me and he knows I like that stuff.

Anyways, he's going out of town the week of Valentine's Day for job training. He's going to have to be climbing high things and he's absolutely terrified of heights. So I know he's not looking forward to this training.

So I made him a bag of treats. It's a big gift bag with little brown paper bags inside. There is one for each morning and night he is there. (Example. Monday Morning. Monday Night, etc.)

In each bag is a small treat. One bag has a pop tart with a note on it that says "Hope you have a day that pops" and each bag has a small note from me in it.

Each bag contains a small food item with a correlating note. Example, a box of Teddy Graham cookies that says "sending bear hugs your way"

Just stuff like that.

I just meant this for a distraction. Something to take his mind off it and to make him feel better. Something to look forward to when he's at training.

Do you think it's too cheesy? I just want him to like it.

I'm just extra concerned because I found a cute craft on Pinterest and I made it for him. I gave it to him and he looked at it for a few minutes then made a joke and it's still sitting at my house...so I don't think he liked it and I just want him to like this and not be like, "oh my goodness this girl is insane"

(This is what I made him off Pinterest http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/5c/23/a7/5c23a72e8d4030631f5a0e7e8b3a0930.jpg)

PS this is not his Valentine's Day gift. His Valentine's Day gift is something very practical that he had said he wanted.

If he's very practical he probably thought 'what the hell am I gonna do with this??'

I find the fact he left it at your house pretty rude though.

Does he actually like all of the food items you are giving him? Will he eat them?

Is it a lot to transport with him out of town? Will he want to bother with it?

Posted

It sounds like he's just afraid his training buddies would laugh at him for having such a cheesy gift bag lying around.

I'd cherish ANY gift my girlfriend would make for me, ESPECIALLY if it's food. So if I was in his shoes, I'd bring it with me and probably just eat the whole thing in one day hahaha. From a man's standpoint I don't see how carrying a cute gift and show it to other guys makes you less masculine? Doesn't make sense to me. It takes a man to be appreciative of a woman's effort to console you from afar during times of stress.

Yes, it is all food items he likes. I know he'll eat everything.

And everything is in a bag that is easy to carry into the hotel with him.

And 95% of the things in it are food things, so he won't have to bring back hardly anything. Maybe 3 or 4 very small things.

He'll have his own hotel room. I don't even know if he's going to know the other guys that are in the training sessions with him. No one besides him will see it anyways.

Its a nice touch. I would love it.

Yeah. . He came over just now and I reminded him that he left it. He said "so?" "It's a block of wood with a light bulb on it. What am I going to do with that? " I said he could put it on his night stand. He said No.

What the heck.

Awww I think it's so sweet! But.. I'm female and I love that kind of thing.

The lightbulb craft is adorable. It was pretty thoughtless of him to dismiss it so summarily in my opinion. I can't even pretend to understand his reaction.

I don't. Whenever anyone gives me a gift I'm not exactly ecstatic about, I at least pretend to be and I take it home...

That just really makes me feel like I can't give him this gift I'm talking about in the thread. It'll probably end up in the trash can at the hotel and I'll be none the wiser, and he'll just think weirdly of me.

I think it was a nice thing to do. It shows that your thinking of him.

When I was a teenager, my then girlfriend bought me a sandwich in a bag that she got at a deli. I was impressed that she would do something that nice for me.

After she left, I kept it in a cool place so it wouldn't get warm and mushy and at lunch time I opened the bag and took out the sandwich.

That night I called her and thanked her for the sandwich and before I could finish, she said, "I know you like corned beef and those big garlic pickles". That's when I had to tell her that she got the wrong bag and what I got was a head cheese sandwich and a container of pickled herrings.

Thought the girl was going to throw up over the phone. Well I'm not a picky eater and I ate it anyhow although when I lifted the top off the sandwich I swore there was something looking back at me. Meh, it was dead so I didn't care. Ate the herrings too. Those I like.

That's really funny :lmao:

I'm probably going to give it to him anyways...I spent a lot of time and a decent amount of money on it...and as others have said..it's mostly food so I guess it's ok.

Not cheesy. I would think you were one of the most awesome gfs in the world! Your gifts show how much THOUGHT and ATTENTION you put into making him feel good. That ought to be appreciated by any guy.

I think it's a nice idea and I think he'll like it even if he didn't like the lightbulb thing. I mean the lightbulb...what ARE you supposed to do with that? I personally don't want a bunch of random **** sitting on my counters/tables, so I get why he was like what? about that one.

sounds cheesy/corny... sorry! i'd be embarrassed for the guy unless he's a teen. crafts? yikes. men don't even like valentine's day, right? they do it to please women. just have sex with him before he leaves and dress in red lingerie - give men what they actually want, lol
