First off as a resident of the city of Atlanta. A mutual nod of silence to those stranded in the traffic gridlock/ice storm. I was one of the up to 800,000 people stranded in the freakishly deadly cold and for the people's lives that are severely effected, if not lost. It was not given near enough respect on the national news. Tanks and Humvees are now trying rescue those who have been left on highways for almost 48+hours.

Well luckily I had enough fortune to find refuge when so many could not. This story deals with that and an unexpected chain of events with a girl follows. (Sorry for the backstory, il'll provide cliffs, it makes the situation make more sense) Read cliffs and go on for details.

Cliffs:

-Horrific catastrophe leads to me and girl meeting at a random makeshift safehouse

-She begins the night as disturbingly cold, upset, out of it. Gets back to normal after some water, food, quick nap

- Have a very decent convo about ourselves. I mostly lead, but she seems a nice girl

- Offer her a pair of sweatpants in place of her scrubs, immediately very thankful and puts them on

- Play some dorky games that are my idea with her to keep us occupied, keep it fun and light-hearted (and close...)

-Gives me her number and basically asks me to the idea of going out.

-Accept but do something really awkward (super unintentionally - hit call button on wrong person) but seem to recover well.

- Plan to call her Wed/Thurs after she returns Monday

Questions:

Did I seriously attract this girl/ie should I bother to attempt to set up a time to go out?

Did the situation could the issue too much?

Did I f up with that really awkward unintentional phone call?

Details:

I found refuge by abandoning my car at a local CVS due to lack of gas and severe icing, and walking to the nearest shelter I could find. I stumbled upon the Atlanta Waste Treatment Center, talked to the security guard, and he gladly let me in. Totally random and unexpected but it had to do. The 7 guys running the emergency squad were incredibly cool, and I was the first person to take their offer of refuge that night (1am). Well about 330 am a girl who just got off work as a nurse and dressed in scrubs and a stylish (read not warm) jacket parks on the premises due to total lack of space. They find her passed out huddled and freezing about 5am and tell her to come inside.

She was a beautiful girl, with universal cuteness, but was so, so cold and upset, it was disturbing to see. After she ate and warmed up and slept a little (putting this about 8am) we began to talk about ourselves. Well it was mostly me asking her about her, but she was responsive and would ask about me too, never really kept the convo steady, but I inquired on various topics and tried to keep it fresh. Keep in mind this is me just trying to chat up a pretty girl who was clearly shocked about the situation and freezing cold.

Well around 10am I have to make the trek to my car to get my briefcase which has my laptop and various chargers. In my trunk I notice a clean pair of sweatpants and think that would be great for her to keep her legs warm. (Again she's in work scrubs). I give them to her and is totally thankful and immediately puts them on. We then eat a soup lunch with the guys before they go back to the machines.

Well we are alone again and just waiting on the temperature to rise, stressfully watching traffic (she has a flight out tomorrow for a mini vacation with her friends). Well we really only had pens and paper for entertainment. No TV, no internet, phones that were constantly dying. I jokingly suggest some old school tic tac toe. She says ok and we play best to 4 wins, and I kind of let her win (let it go to 3-2 and tossed #3/ #4). She coyly said that was the case and smiled.

We both were constantly updating our relatives/friends on if we were ok or not. Take a break to do that. And again we find ourselves f-ing bored. I suggest paper football. She has never played it before. After a quick rundown on the rules we play. She was actually a beast. We played to 100, I won 101-91. She was so happy she was good at a "Guy's Sport" LOL, but I always had a compliment for her.

Well after some small talk, we are ready to leave due to road conditions improving, and she offers to drive me back to my car. When she is about to drop me off she says "Lett me give you my number, please text me when you get home, and well you're new in the area maybe we could go out for a drink sometime" I obviously accepted and told her she was an awesome person and offered up a hug for good luck on the way home, which was accepted. Texted her when I got back sent a few quick ones back and forth. I did something AWKWARD, my mom and her texted me at the exact same time. Had to call mom, pulled up her message box in stead and hit dial. She answers, I think its my sister, as I'm about to be like wtf? She says hello again and I'm like fuuuuck, looked at the number and she says hellllooo? for a third time. I immediately say my bad, meant to call my mom to tell her I got back safe - she wanted details. Laughs and says ok. Wish her a safe and fun trip and say i'll call her next week to set something up, she say ok bye-bye. Wish that never happened.

I think you mistakingly calling her instead of your mom is really cute. Don't worry about that!

You kidding me?? You didn't do good. You did amazing.

To be randomly stranded due to some freak polar vortex situation and she stumbled upon a guy who was also in the same situation and kept her occupied with games and company? Who kept her smiling and distracted from the situation?

As a nurse who used to work bedside patient care, I can assure you she was probably at work for 12+ hours by the time you saw her. At least, probably more like 16-20 (horrible weather, people aren't coming in, they usually threaten "abandonment of patient" statutes to get people to stay until staff coverage is enough) So yeah, I would have been pissed off, exhausted, miserable, starving, and hating the world.

So you were as close to a knight in shining armor as it gets. The sweatpants thing was thoughtful. The games show you can have a good time in any situation. The checking in with your people means you have/care about family. The hug was a nice gesture. The fact she asked you to check in with her means she wanted you to contact her. She offered her number. There must be some attraction on her end.

You nailed this. It's like a romantic comedy.

The phone call thing was goofy but depending on the circumstances could be very charming.

Good luck. I hope this leads to something. It's a cute story.
