Mr me to Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 My son is asking why mummy is spending time with my friend when I'm not there? He also wants to know if mummy has two boyfriends now? I have totally no idea how to explain this situation to a four year old, I understand he needs to feel secure with his mum but I also don't want him thinking its normal. Any ideas? So far I've been dancing around the subject but I can see he's confused? To be honest it doesn't make me feel great knowing he is around my children already. It was only last year that me my son and supposed friend spent the night camping... I'm feeling as if my heart has been ripped out!
d0nnivain Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 You need to find an age appropriate way to tell your son that your relationship with his mom has changed. He doesn't need to know why or how just that you two are no longer a couple but that you will always love him.
mammasita Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Be truthful but age appropriate....."sometimes mommy's change their mind about how they feel about daddy's but she will never change the way she feels about you"
TheyCallMeOx Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Son, if you have a really nice pencil, you only give that pencil to people you really like. If you like a girl and she wants to borrow your pencil, you may let her. But sometimes, women don't want the pencil anymore and want to borrow someone else's. She enjoyed your pencil while it lasted, but sometimes people just want a different pencil. 1

Haha lmao first time I've laughed about the whole situation, Thanks man, debating whether to tell him his mums a cheap pencil sharpener! So I basically said he's mummy's new friend instead now but it doesn't matter because I'll always be his daddy. Possibly the hardest conversation I have had in my life. It seems to have made him comfortable enough to tell me about all about him and his mummy. Painful but guess like it or not he's part of my children's life now...
