Knew it was looming for quite a while and it finally happened today. But, I am looking at it as a positive. Because now I can finally up and leave this shyte hole of a town. I can go wherever I want and do whatever I want. I have been waiting for this opportunity ever since getting dumped in March of 2013. If you remember my story, I left everything I knew in the SF Bay Area and moved 300 miles north with my ex because she got a job here. I didn't have one for the first 6 months but finally got one. Then we split up. I have since stayed in this town for the last 10 or so months because of said job, but little else.

So now I'm free with absolutely nothing here to stick around for. A little scary, but very exciting!!!

Sorry to hear that brother. It's hard out there these days. I have two degrees and I haven't had a job in almost a year. Its rough. Where did/do you do?

This can be spun into a good thing, like you said.

Getting laid off sucks, but your attitude sounds like you're in the right frame of mind to make the next move. Good for you, I hope it works out. :)

Well, I have a teaching credential (high school), and a BS in Business Admin. I also have a lot of experience in food serving (Cheesecake Factory) and some experience in home construction / remodeling. I will do whatever I can at first, but would like to teach again ASAP...

Mostly, I just want out of this town, and the economic outlook / opportunity is terrible here, so why stay? Rather go to a bigger area such as Portland or Seattle. Or maybe down to SoCal. Just not here :)

Whaaa? You're from the SF Bay but you're a hawks fan? Blasphemy! lol. It's ok. Why not come back to the Bay? I live in the Bay (though expensive) ..couldn't imagine living anywhere else!

Me too!!

And the awesome thing is I'm not even thinking about my ex and what he's doing for the super bowl. . . . Been a long time since that happened. It feels good to be excited about something and not care what he's doing.

He's also a 49 ers fan. . . . just sayin (wicked laugh)

Also, best of luck in your job search!! :D

LOL!! Grew up with the niners through about age 20. Then switched to Seattle when they were still in the AFC West (because of some great rivalry's with friends) and been a fan since. Now that there in the NFC, what a great rivalry with SF. Love it!!!! :p

As far as moving back? Meh... Most of my old friends are on a different track. Family is 90+% relocated out of the area. And job prospects are minimal. Combine that with ridiculous rent and / or mortgage, and I'll take my chances elsewhere. Love the weather, but too many other negatives. Will always miss the food and night-life of downtown SF :(

Great outlook! :bunny: I'm sorry to hear about getting laid off, but it sounds like it's actually a blessing in disguise. Get out of there and go somewhere that makes YOU happy!

Yeah... I've been hearing a lot of positives about Texas. Especially for teachers. Just seems really far away and a very different lifestyle???

Here's what I'm thinking:

1. Portland / Seattle

2. SoCal / Orange County

3. Texas (Austin??)

Even though you lost your job, great to hear that you have the opportunity to relocate to a new place, not having to live in an area which reminds you, or has any association with your ex! I wish you the best.

Austin is a great city to work and play in.

Houston is very affordable for a big city. 4th largest and the growth here is amazing.

I've spent some time in the Eureka area as a stopoff on my relocation trips to Oregon. It is a bit 'different'. IMO, though it's been struggling since the logging industry died, Oregon appears to have a lot of opportunities and is worth a look if you generally like the climate and demographics. A person with your skillset will always find something to do and the cost of living there is pretty low, at least compared to California.

Collect your UI and take a look at your options. With change there is opportunity. Good luck.
