I can't really imagine anyone starting an LDR just for fun.. I know I sure didn't. So this got me to wonder, how long will most relationships actually be LDR? How long before your LDR will become SDR for want of a better term?

For me, this will be about two years, if all goes according to plan. I have unfinished business here (education) which will probably take me until June 2015 to finish. Fortunately we live on the same continent, although circumstances won't let us meet more often than about 1-2 weeks once every two months. After that, I'll be looking for a job in his country, and move over (luckily I've fallen in love both with the guy AND the country he lives in, and I've wanted to leave my own country for years anyway).

So, how long will you be in an LDR, if all goes according to plan? And how long will you have been in an LDR by the time you finally get to live together, or close enough together that it won't be LDR anymore?

I dont think there is anyone who started a LDR for fun lol because it isnt funny at all. It just happened. And there are various time frame LDR u will find in this forum. There are some people who have been in LDR for a long tie like Elws and Tiger( uhm i dont remember exactly what their nicknames are, sorry ) and many more.

Only as long as the governments which won't allow easy immigration, or have you stationed away from each other forces upon you.

We've been LDR for over four years and, because of his work, there will always be some element of distance involved for us, even once we're finally in the same country (or at least hemisphere!).

What keeps us apart is a mixture of finances, government rules, health issues and family commitments. I have a business that's tied to property (which I haven't been able to sell because of the worldwide recession), and his type of work doesn't exist in my country. We're in our late forties and our best option is for him to retrain in a field that's related to, but different from, his current one - and that will also take time and money.

We've had times when we couldn't see each other for almost a year, which was horrible, but this past year we've been together for almost six months - the maximum we could manage, legally and financially. That's probably as good as it gets for us - for several more years anyway.

We're committed, happy and secure as a couple so we just make the best of a less than ideal situation, but nobody does this for fun!

Ours was going to be about 3 years long, but plans fell apart with no plan B, so we've been together nearly 4 years, no plans to cut the distance.

We have broken up more than once, but it's hard to stay apart, so we're keeping going for now.
