Got contacted by someone I saw two years ago with a strange email...

it says "Hi, This is a bit out of the blue but have you tried to contact me in the pasty few weeks? Hope you are well".

I can't work out what is going on here so I responded with "I'm sorry, who is this?"

I mean SERIOUSLY? What kind of email is that? I can't even speculate, why would I get an email like that?

and I responded with "I'm sorry, who is this?" because I think it is both sarcastic and conveys the "what?" meaning I am trying to convey!

Has anyone ever received something similar? What gives?

Thread title is kinda confusing sir. Do you mean 'saw' as in your ex that you used to see/date?

If yes, then she is blatantly trying to re initiate conversation with you. Was she stubborn?

Sounds like she is fishing without trying to be too direct.

well I obviously pretended I didn't know her and then she messaged me back saying she got a message on her phone, wondered if it was from me, but figures it wasn't, then she added a smileyface.

all I can say is "how very rude". to email me out of the blue after two years and then add a smiley face like I am her buddy... how rude.

Why is this rude? Sorry don't get it, you could also just be direct and say you don't appreciate her contact.

I did that in my response to her, as well as informed her why it is rude. because simply the act of contacting me brought up old painful memories. she had no right to do that.

How about you could have just ignored the first message. I'm sure she would have figured out it wasn't you.

this seems really really petty... but I responded to her rudely because I wanted to give her a piece of my mind. I KNOW there is no chance of reconciliation (not after all this time) but when she dumped me in march 2012 I did all the wrong things in the book, I sent her a very long pathetic letter telling her how great she was and how much I was going to miss her... at the time I was not thinking clearly and I pathetically thought doing this might make her come back... it obviously didn't.

she responded wishing me all the best and saying she would "be in touch soon" so we could go out as friends.... never heard from her again until today...

and since we had last left on 'good' terms it felt good to send her a nasty email. I am aware that people here advise against it, it can make you look pathetic and still hung up on them... but I don't care. I did it, and I don't regret it.
