Hi,

First time poster, so please be gentle - hoping to get some advice on what to do next.

I'll try to give you the short version.

About 8 months ago, I started seeing someone who I work with - We were both single at the time, as she had split up with her ex a few months previously and they have two children together.

Our relationship got serious quite quickly and we seemed happy together.

Two months ago, out of the blue, she started to be distant and started talking about how important her children were to her and how their happiness would always come first.

As i'm sure you've guessed by now, she left me and went back to her ex, to try and give their children a proper family.

She still tells me that she's madly in love with me and that its breaking her heart that we're not together, but she has to try for her children and in a way, I understand where she is coming from.

She wants us to be friends and while i'm not the type of guy to split a family up, I still want to be with her and I don't want to close the door on that possibility.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Walk away. Don't interfere with her family life in any way shape or form. You have no idea what she and her current relationship are trying to do to repair their relationship for the sake of their kids. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. She may have been using you as a rebound. And if you decide to remain friends, you're asking for trouble.

walk away, NC, give them a chance

there is no such things as friends with this situation..that would first of all not be fair to you, but also her and her family.

leave them alone ASAP!

Cheers guys, appreciate the responses.

As much as I want to be friends, I do feel like I would be doing so, with the hope that we might get another chance further down the line.

I know you're right though, and this would benefit no one

The above advice is spot on in my opinion. Not easy, but you seem fairly level headed about it.

Cheers - Suppose it would be so much easier if we didn't work so closely, but thats the risk you take with a work relationship!
