need some suggestions

Its been almost 8 months since my breakup. I'm doing ok overall, however I still find myself getting sad sometimes because my heart is slow to catch up to my mind. I think a big part of the problem is since I started this new job, I have more free time at nights now when I used to work overnights. Any suggestions to fill the free time? My friends are pretty scattered ( my best friend of course lives the furthest away) so while phone calls are practically a daily thing, the actual getting together is obviously a bit harder to do. So I am looking to meet new people. And, keep myself busy to avoid getting caught up in thoughts that do nothing but waste my time and set me back a bit. Thanks in advance!

Making new friends is a great way for a fresh start IMO. Have you tried meetup.com? Great way to meet new people near your location and you can find a group with same interests as yours.

Yip, meetup is good.

Also, a list of things that you like and things that you would like to learn.. see if there are any classes you could join or places that you could volunteer at during weekends, or something that gets you outdoors like hiking, biking, scuba diving etc. You could also join a dating site if you're up for it.. you don't need to get into a relationship, I've actually formed some great long-lasting friendships that way.

And for those nights when you stay in, I find reading is great for taking the mind off of things, or checking out youtube/TED videos, anything that interests you. So many things to discover in this world :bunny:

Hi! Thanks for the suggestions! No, I haven't tried meetup yet...I'll have to look into that. I have always been a shy person, although when I was with my ex, I became a little more outgoing. I'd like to continue being that way, and not go back to being so shy. Its so hard to meet new people when you're so kept to yourself!
