I was on the bus today looking out the window, and I began to contemplate my ex leaving me two months ago. I was thinking of who I was two months ago, how emotionally draining and dysfunctional I was. I believe in any break up both parties are to blame in different aspects, but you must recognize your behavior to develop yourself. I know my faults, how my actions resulted to the demise of our relationship which was hard to accept as no one wants to admit their shortcomings, but it is necessary.

What I thought I needed was my ex, but today on the bus I realized that I did not need her in my life to make myself feel whole. I realized what I truly needed was a traumatic event to occur to shake me to the foundation, so I could change my life for the better. I cannot return to my past self as that was a version of myself I am not proud of. I can only move forward and see where life takes me. And while I still miss my ex, I know that I will find love again as I am a great human being with many faults, but all faults can be worked once recognized.

Life can destroy anyone; it takes true strength to stand up and limp knowing you're injured, but having the bravery to heal and rebuild. Life gives you not what you think you need, but sometimes it gives you what you actually need.

Yes... sometimes, that's what it takes.

We cannot know changes need making unless something pulls us up short and smacks us in the face with a damp kipper.

So, yes, I would say 9 times out of 10, it is....

Yes, and no. I haven't read the entire thread- but this comment popped out.

Think about it this way: a drug addict that had that really bad OD- is that an eye opener for them? Sometimes it is; sometimes it isn't.
