xspectrex Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I'd just like to conduct a short poll, your answer is much appreciated!!! Is it more attractive if a person can.... Speak French proficiently but not play guitar or if they can Play guitar proficiently but not speak French Who would you choose?
soccerrprp Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Guy here and I would choose guitar. Love the guitar and people who are musically talented and proficient french means SOME french, so good enough for me. Besides, being very social, the guitar allows for more opportunities socially to engage, have a good time, sing, etc.
InnocentMan Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Both are pretty obnoxious skills, unless you are either, A/ French, or B/ A musician. If I was forced to choose, I would pick the guitar, providing you know a little more than the opening bars of 'Smoke on the Water'. Having spent time with a native French person, the language/accent soon leaves you with an urge to rip both ears off, just for a moments peace. A sexy clip on some perfume ad, is quite different from someone saying 'Putain' every two minutes, and talking about cheese for what seems like an eternity. Now I'm thinking about it, definitely the guitar. 2

Shashasha Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I don't think it really matters - but maybe more of the guitar
isisisweeping Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Both of those might be cool in the context of a person but I don't think I think if either as especially attractive, certainly not in the sense I would rank them. 1
Shepp Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Guitar, all day everyday to me. I mean they both show passion for something, which is good. But language wise I'm at Bonjour, Hola, Gracias, Pollo and then down to shouting and pointing in English like a game of charades Where as I can play a bit of guitar myself. I guess if those two facts were all I had to go on i'd take a punt that the girl who couldn't speak French but could play guitar would have more in common with myself?
Barbarossa Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I don't find either particularly attractive. If I had to choose either I would say French as long as they speak English
MrCastle Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Guitar is cool but you can't play it during sex. So in terms of attraction it does nothing. Whereas, you can speak French while I have you bent over a chair ramming you from behind. Therefore I choose French. 5

MrCastle Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Do they make different sound in French? "F*ck me" in French probably sounds different. As well as a variety of other dirty phrases. We say "threesome," they say "menage a trois," they class it up over there. 1
BlametheIrish Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) I used to live down south in an area with a real mixed bag of people. I.worked for a French guy who hired some french interns. All I learned was a bunch of swear words lol. Not such,a hit accent when you hear it day in and out at work. "Putan le meard" means f this s Spelled horribly incorrectly lol Thats probably the most innocent thing I.was taught But Id pick guitar over many other assets as my famy is very musically inclined. At family gatherings we're known to have over 10 guitars, a dulcimer, banjo, uke, dumbek.etc Got to love a man who.plays an instrument well Edited January 16, 2014 by BlametheIrish
SYLLPalmer Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I am like JLC in a Fish Called Wanda where most languages are concerned but "musicians" make me run the other way. Too much pressure IMO. Unless he sounds like Tom Yorke or the lead singer of Interpol I will more than likely be bored and annoyed. How much guitar playing can one listen to before it is time interact.
mammasita Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 How about french with a spanish twang and chopsticks on the piano......4ucken right!
SYLLPalmer Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Voulez vous coucher avec mois? Who is months? See goggle translate silly:bunny:
todreaminblue Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 if a guy can play a musical instrument and be passionate....means more than words said in french....i have a theory about guys who play musical instruments that require finger work havent been proven wrong and its hot..its also hot when they sing to you while playing the guitar ....multi tasking tactileness....deb
InnocentMan Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 "F*ck me" in French probably sounds different. As well as a variety of other dirty phrases. We say "threesome," they say "menage a trois," they class it up over there. I thought I'd seen, and done it all, until I met a French woman. I had more than one 'wtf' moment. The one thing I wouldn't describe it as, is 'classing it up'. If you can handle the inevitable post-coitus philosophical discussion, I would highly recommend it.
d0nnivain Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Different people are going to have different opinions on the subject. Although both are skills I don't possess, neither one of them factors into my attraction to a man. I suppose the whole hype of performing in a band or otherwise publically playing the guitar has a certain j'nai se qua (sorry couldn't resist)
acrosstheuniverse Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) I would think someone speaking French was cool, but not particularly attractive. Someone playing guitar, however... I'm convinced the single biggest thing most men could do to increase their interest from females is learn to play guitar and then pose with one online even if you can only play a few acoustic chords and can knock out a couple of tunes I bet it'd still get you an inning with a chick over someone who doesn't play guitar. I'm a musician myself, guitar being one of my instruments. Music is the most important thing in my whole life, so a guy sharing that passion is VERY attractive. It doesn't even have to be to a particularly high standard, if a guy knows his way around the instrument that's sexy enough for me. If he started sweeping and pinching harmonics all over the shop, however, I'm his Also guitar is a demonstrable skill in a way that French isn't unless your date speaks French too. You can play them a song, and they will enjoy it, but unless they know language themselves, you can't exactly show off your French because it'll all sound like gobbledygook. Thinking about it I have only ever dated two or three people that weren't musicians. Literally everybody else has been a guitarist or bassist. Possibly because I run in those circles myself. regine_phalange Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 The guitar, because I love the sound of it and a nice fantasy is a handsome naked man playing it because he can't fall asleep Francais est une belle langue, mais anglais est une belle langue aussi, et n'est pas ma langue maternelle. So the effect is the same with either french or english for me
kodakgirl Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Depends if French is the second language or the first... If second, they're equal, both learning languages and learning instruments is good. If he's a native french speaker.... love it. I really like French men, both from France and Quebec. I find the accents of French speakers speaking English really endearing too, and the way they always mix up 'this' and 'that' ( they're he same word in French) and when they can't quite think of the exact right English word (calling pine needles 'pins', for instance). Also I just went to paris and fell totally in love so I'd love to be able to go with someone who actually speaks more than my super basic French!
Eau Claire Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 My boyfriend is from Quebec and he's played the guitar for almost 40 years. I love everything about him except his toenails. I'm not sure which is the more romantic city, Paris or Montreal. It's fun to have my own private translator. He comes from a large family and when they all get talking around the table, I learn a little more French. My boyfriend's English is very good but he speaks with his hands. I don't think his mouth can open if his hands are not moving.
