I ran into a guy I met through work (not a coworker but basically a vendor) at a big work function we had on Sunday. It was the third time meeting and we totally hit it off. The conversation was fun, light, lots of banter - we had chemistry and it was clear we both felt it. He even made a cute comment about it. He asked for my number in the middle of the conversation. I hesitated before giving it to him (not because I wasn't interested but because I was thinking it could potentially be a work conflict). He picked up on the hesitation and said something about how that wasn't reassuring. At the end of the convo we said bye and he told me he was going to text me. Following the goodbye, him and his friend walked out with a few other coworkers and I to get a cab, and he gave me another big hug and then mentioned again that he would text me. I said okay. It's now Tuesday night and I haven't heard from him. Just wondering if this denotes his interest level is low since its been over 48 hours? Or do you think he's not into it/changed his mind/forgot the feeling? Guys - how long do you usually take to contact a girl you're interested in after getting her number? I feel if a guy is really interested, it would be the same night.

Depends. Most guys I give my number too either text straight away or the next day. There was a few cases where they seem to have stuck to the 3 day rule and then text me.

If he msgs well that's good. If not, his loss :)

If I really like her I will wait a few days so I don't seem desperate. If I'm just kinda interested I'll text immediately. This isn't an exact science he will text you eventually if he's interested.

If I asked for your number and told you that I would text, it's b/c I am interested. So, within 24-hours.

I reach out within two days by calling. If the woman doesn't pick up, I leave a message.

I find it odd he didn't text a light remark such as it was nice to meet you and some reference to a little tidbit of a piece of a conversation you shared.

Not odd he didn't ask you out yet.

So it looks like the consensus is 1-3 days. Well its Wednesday now so its been 3 days and no word from him. Boys will be boys!

Not really. A man who is attracted to you is 'obsessed'. Again, odd he didn't just send a short text saying it was nice to have met you.

Oh well, every guy is unique. Keep your fingers crossed. We're rooting for you.

Yeah, that could be the reason. I felt like I reassured him though with non verbal cues (long hug, smile, positivity) when we had our second goodbye. Enough cues for him to at least send a text to test the temperature before giving up on it entirely. He might have thought about the work conflict issue too and decided it was better to not go there. Whatever it is, I'm not gonna waste time thinking about it anymore.
