I do. I send them when I get frustrated at not getting a response for emails.

 

My attitude is: it lets him know I'm interested, if he is, he can contact me.

Non-paying members don't want to subscribe to email you if you aren't interested so often will wink, kiss, favorite you, etc. to see if there is any interest on your part. If there isn't, ignore them. If there is, respond in kind. If they are really interested that will give them the green light to subscribe and send a proper email. Usually.

I'm able to see if my email has been read. Normally, i assume if it hasn't been read, but they've been on the site since it was sent, they aren't paying members.

nope - i only respond to emails because it lets me know they are a paying member or interested enough to say something. I might wink back, but I'd never write them

The best was when I'd receive winks, and I'd assume the woman had a free account so she couldn't send an email, I would send a message after reading her profile so I can get a conversation going. I'd never receive a response.

I generally don't respond to winks, I personally hate them. I'd much rather get an actual message I could respond to.
