cobeflats Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I'm a normal guy...don't where a fanny pack or pocket protector or anything. but... Ladies, what would be your reaction if someone asked you for 3rd date to go to the beach late afternoon and then astronomy after dark? I am an experienced amateur astronomer with good equipment (not from sears;)). However, would you be weirded out by this suggestion so early on? I don't want it to come off as too corny. Thanks
MidwestUSA Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I would love it. I like a guy with good equipment. If she's the outdoor type, go for it. She might prefer, at this stage, to do one or the other, beach or astronomy, not both in one date. Hopefully, she'll let you know what she's comfortable with. Ask her! 3
nescafe1982 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I think that's really romantic, creative, and perfect for a third date. Seriously, it's a good idea... especially since it showcases your interests and is more than just "dinner and a movie." I would be psyched about a date like this. 2

Thanks I'm not a female, but I feel like I can contribute. I wouldn't make an event out of it - when it starts to get dark and the stars become visible, subtly share that you have good equipment for star-gazing and that it's a perfect night for it. You want to aim to be spontaneous. Women love it! And there's nothing quite more romantic than star-gazing on a beach! 2
d0nnivain Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Sounds more interesting then going to another bar or restaurant.
Author cobeflats Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Thanks for your replies. Quick parting factoid: We all know it takes roughly 8 minutes for light from Sun (96 million miles from us) to reach earth. Takes over 4 years for light to reach us from our closest star:)

dontgo Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Thanks for your replies. Quick parting factoid: We all know it takes roughly 8 minutes for light from Sun (93 million miles from us) to reach earth. Takes over 4 years for light to reach us from our closest star:) Quick factoid, the sun is a star! And a quick recalculation says is takes only 8 minutes for light to reach us from the our closest star! Anyways good luck with the date. Make sure a decent bottle of wine is included with the astronomy equipment. 1
CrystalCastles Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 "factoid"? Haha! I think that idea is great! Do it!
sagetalk Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 However, would you be weirded out by this suggestion so early on? I don't want it to come off as too corny. Thanks If she doesn't like you, she will say it is corny. To heck with her and dump her. If she says she likes it, then as your pointing out the stars, make sure your arm finds a way around her somehow. 1
ana0pera Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 i am a nerdy science girl so i am biased but if a guy proposed that as a third date idea i'd totally be down for it! Ideally you're dating someone who shares interests like this, or someone who is open to exploring your interests (and sharing her interests with you).
Author cobeflats Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Great...appreciate everyone's feedback and the humor. Was hesitant to stray too far from the norm in the very beginning..so was just feeling it out on the forum. Thanks again

Was hesitant to stray too far from the norm in the very beginning..so was just feeling it out on the forum. Thanks again I think trying to pack in the beach and star-gazing into one date is too much. Do one or the other, but not both the first date. I'd be cool with the star gazing for a first date- but beach AND star gazing when you don't even know if you'll click with the person is too much pressure to place on a first meeting.
MixedUpChick Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 It sounds fun to me, but it seems like your best course of action is to throw it out there to her & see what she thinks. It doesn't matter if every response here is positive if you find out she hates the idea.
OrangeSnack Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I hope you find your penny (big bang theory).
