Missy1171 Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Hopefully someone knows something about this. In November I had a mass removed from my left breast, my doctor said that it contained no cancer cells. I thought that was great and it was done. But on Friday I had another surgery called a Sentinal Node Biopsy. The injected Radio active dye in to my left breast and did the Biopsy. They removed one of the main nodes that drain directly into your breast. My doctor said that the next step was Radiation therapy. Even if there is no cancer found in the newest biopsy. I don't understand this. I have asked him why I need to do that if there is no sign of cancer? He said that he was wanting it done as a preventive measure. I have had cancer before, 14yrs ago. I don't know if thats why he is wanting to do the Radiatoion or what. Has anybody ever heard of Radiation as a preventive thing? This has just got me so confused.
Matilda Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Have you tried asking your question on a breast cancer message board? Here are links to a couple: http://www.breastcancer.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php http://boards.webmd.com/topic.asp?topic_id=30
