d0nnivain Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 DH & I will be flying to the other side of the country for Valentine's Day. I already told him the trip is present enough but I still expect a small box of chocolate (< $10) & a card. Hey, I like chocolate. Anyway . . . what can I get him? It will have to go in the suitcase & I'm concerned about luggage weight. He doesn't like chocolate. I'm leaning toward silly boxer shorts with hearts on them but am open to suggestions. Any ideas? Thanks.
SnapCracklePop Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Where are you visiting? Maybe there is something in the city you are going to that might make an interesting gift?
Author d0nnivain Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 We will be visiting his father & step mom. I won't have the ability to go anywhere alone. We'll travel on the 13th & land late so whatever it is, needs to come with us. Plus I won't have the privacy to wrap it etc. Last time we were away for V-day I was able to buy him a local gift which he still loves.
SnapCracklePop Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Something engraved maybe? Or maybe get a nice photo printed of the two of you from some other special time, and put it in a nice frame. What things does he like?

Thanks. It's hard to say as I don't know your husband and what he likes. What have you given him in the past? What does he like? Valentine's Day gifts for me are always small tokens and not anything that could possibly cause a suitcase to be overweight, But it's also usually something specific I know my SO will like. In the past I've given a watch, cologne, silk pajamas, cigars, wine, an engraved pen or we did something together like a couple's massage or went out. All those things though as I said were person dependent and based on me knowing what they liked or wanted. Edited January 8, 2014 by MissBee
Author d0nnivain Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 He doesn't have too many interests which is what makes getting him anything tough. For V-day in the past I have given him Guinness (his favorite), a pink tie, pink shirts, a red bow tie & cummerbund set for his tux, etc. I obviously can't do liquids. I'd prefer to avoid things that are breakable. Based on the costs of the trip I don't want to spend a lot. He has a ton of clothes at this point. The hints or suggestions I hope to get from you are more creative & less dependent on him & his likes per se. Again I was thinking themed boxers. He won't love them but they are kind of funny.
CarrieT Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 If you go to Etsy or Ebay, you will see a ton of Guinness-themed items you could get that are under $20. It would probably be used and appreciated more than kitchy boxer shorts that you admit he won't like.
SnapCracklePop Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Personally, I'd stick to sentimental then. A photo of the two of you is about $0.50 to get printed... then a $15 frame. And you can pack that in the middle of your suitcase.. it won't break. He can take it to work and put it on his desk. Or something engraved like a keychain that he can use every day. He likes Guinness... many places sell Guinness glasses. (often, places that sell pool tables also sell things to decorate a bar with, or equip a bar with, and the glasses are sold in a protective box) You could even take a picture of what you do decide to get him, and put *that* picture in the card - so you don't have to worry about breaking whatever... he knows what is waiting for him when you get home.
