chicothechimp Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 a great break-up CD (i.e., soaked in relationship grief and sadness via song) is Me'Shell Ndegeocello's "BITTER"... very sad album about a lover who just bailed on her... highly recommended. Chico
Isabella82 Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I can't listen to Ushers My Boo, my ex called me his Boo. It is just wierd to me, when I first heard that song I thought to myself how strange, but at least I know that the song has to remind him of me.
smile Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I listen to "all things must pass" by George Harrison "Blue" by Joni Mitchell (that album is amazing for heartbreak) "Rabbitt Songs" Hem "A Boot and A Shoe" Sam Phillips "Figure 8" Elliot Smith anything by Badly Drawn Boy anything by Nick Drake and good country like Johnny Cash or Kris Kristofferson. mellow and sad.
debs Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Isabella that is exactly why it cheers me up...it was my pet name from my EXH!!! Usher's song, My Boo makes me smile!!
masaki1085 Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 R.E.M. - "Country Feedback" Definitely one worth listening to.

VirginiaBob Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young. Usually after a breakup.
Fallen_Angel Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 "White Ladder" by David Gray really helped me pull through after a breakup...very soothing and melodic. I like to hear Portishead's "Sour Times" when I'm upset. I also like Ben Folds Five's "Song for the Dumped" but then I start to laugh when I think of the video; in one scene a little girl is burning a Ken doll's face with an iron. Priceless. And yes, this is soooo cliche, but I'd also have to add "Everybody Hurts" by REM.
hurtingandconfused Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Red hot chilli peppers-under the bridge because...i don't ever want to feel... like... i did that day....
iceisles Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 "I Might Be Wrong" by Radiohead. I also like "Karma Police"
tattoomytoe Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 any morrisey album will do. and country tunes.
Icarus Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 "Gone Out of My Mind" - Steve Wariner Google the lyrics. They hit home. Better to music, worse when you're blue, but I still like the tune, and always will.
Visiting Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Radiohead is always a good choice. Also: "Just Perfect" by Ryan Montbleau for when you miss him/her. "Show Me a Little Shame" by Ben Harper when you feel like telling him/her off And my personal favorite for sheer unadulterated crying material - Done Wrong by Ani DiFranco
imokurnot Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Such a great voice and when he was with the smiths the music was almost happy and he was crooning some seriously depressing sh**. I love Morrissey and the hurt in the songs makes me feel I am not alone in my world of pain.
summerlove Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 One of my favorites!!! Jack Johnson..... His music is awesome!! anyone heard of him or listen to his songs! SpaceCoyote Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 I think it depends on how you are hurting and how you want to feel. Sometimes when I am down about my ex, I do want to hear traditionally sad songs. But other times, truly depressing music just drives me down deeper and I don't think that is a good thing. When I am hurting real real bad, I listen to Linkin Park. Their lyrics are bleak and always about pain, loss, or alienation. It reaches me but gives me strength also. Some of their best on these subjects are "With You," "By Myself," "In The End," "Pushing Me Away" and basically the entire Meteora album which, lyrically, is hugely depressing and empowering at the same time. "Somewhere I Belong" has been my personal theme song since my breakup. Some traditionally depressing songs that I like are: "All My Little Words" by The Magnetic Fields "Only One" by Yellowcard "Ghost" and "Left Me A Fool" by the Indigo Girls And I'll second the Morrissey nomination as well, although it kills me to hear his music because he is my ex's favorite artist. But some of his (or The Smiths) most hurting songs are "There is a light that never goes out," "Heaven knows I'm miserable now" and "I know it's over."
SpaceCoyote Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 I am just starting to get into the band Yellowcard and I am finding that many of their songs are also about loss. One that touched me in particular is "Empty Apartment." My ex left me for another man, whom she decided she was in love with and wanted to move in with a month after she met him. So when I heard this song for the first time and this lyric in particular, I basically lost it: "Waking up from this nightmare How's your life? What's it like there? Is it all that you thought it would be? Does it hurt when you think about me and how broken my heart is?"
a2nxtc28 Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 Alanis Morrisette and Boyz II Men (DOING JUST FINE) There was a time when I thought life was over and out When you went away from me My dying heart made it hard to breathe Would sit in my room Because I didn't want to have to go out And see you walking by One look and I'd break right down and cry Never meant to take your love away But you can save your tired apologies 'Cause it may seem hard to believe I'm doin' just fine Getting along very well Without you in my life I don't need you in my life I'm doin' just fine Time made me stronger You're no longer on my mind You were my earth My number one priority I gave me love to only you Anything you'd ask of me I would do But somewhere down the road You felt a change in the weather And told me that you had to journey on A kiss in the wind and your love was gone Now you say you never meant to play your games Boy, you know it's far too late Because you let our love just fall apart You no longer have a heart When you said goodbye I felt so all alone There were times at night I couldn't sleep My heart was much to weak to make it on my own Baby after all the misery And pain you put me through So unfair to me boy 're no longer my world And I ain't missin' you at all
