So, a few people know I ride a motorcycle. Currently a Yamaha V-Star 650... but I have my eye on a Suzuki SV650, a Suzuki Gladius, and maybe a GXSR (haven't decided).

My friend sent me this... I agree with almost all of it...

Harley-Davidson study: Women who ride are happier, more fulfilled - latimes.com

I can definitely empathize with what the woman says at the bottom. I can also say that it has HURT (not helped) my dating chances when most men find out I own my own motorcycle. They assume I've got lots of tattoos, have a dicey past, or a drinking/drug problem. No. And none of my riding friends do either.

I've since stopped telling new people I meet that I ride and I'm careful about what I ride it to... if I'm meeting a new guy.

That has worked a lot better for me... letting them get to know me a little first before I tell them I have a motorcycle. It sucks, but oh well.

I used to ride a motorcycle in my 20s. A red Honda 360. And I certainly don't fit the stereotype of women with tatoos, etc. I also have a friend, a lady in my Bible study group actually, that's pushing 40 and rides a motorcycle. I think men with a good sense of self esteem would not be intimidated that you have one, or jump to negative conclusions. They would probably be intrigued, and think you were a free spirit who enjoys life. No need to hide the fact that you have one. Any man who would be intimidated by it is probably not the type of guy who would be a match for you anyway. You seem like a very independent, confident woman with high self esteem. Your equal would not be intimidated by the fact that you ride a motorcycle.

Well, I think I give them plenty of other reasons to feel intimidated that goes beyond the motorcycle... I'd rather not add one more thing until they get a chance to know me a little.

I wonder too, if these guys assume women who ride motorcycles are easy... Somehow, I get the impression that a lot of these guys lose respect for me or feel more empowered to try and push things sexually early on.

The funny thing is, I also drive a Subaru station wagon. The epitome of a grandma car. I have those two sides to me. The practical and conservative... and the racy side that I hide from strangers.

So, I don't know. I feel my motorcycle is kind of like Victoria's Secret underwear. It's under the 'business suit', and only to be revealed to those who know me well.

You're making too many assumptions..

So you are like a mullet? Business in the front, party in the back?:p:laugh:

I know a lot of the "culture" you speak of and none of the guys I know who are riders are trolling for an easy piece of ass. In fact, my best friend is as hardcore an "outlaw" biker as you would ever see, but hed never disrespect you, or any other woman..Most are happily married and the ones that arent are just regular people that ride..Its not like the movies...

Just sounds like you are meeting a bunch of jackass losers who just happen to own a bikes-or you are just assuming something that isnt so...

Hope you had/have a happy Holiday!;)

I'm scared of riding a motorcycle.

Smart! Riding a motorcycle IS scary... that's the fun part :)

But seriously... The main reason I drive my own motorcycle is because I don't trust others to drive ME unless they are super experienced and I know they won't do something stupid.

I've ridden on/with another person's motorcycle three times in my life. I mean, three people.

If you learn yourself, you go at your own pace, you ride what you like and how you like.

OTOH, I've been riding bicycles on busy roads since I was quite young... commuted to college on my bicycle (sometimes as far as 20 miles each way).... so moving up to a motorcycle wasn't that big of a stretch. Similar road and defensive driving skills are needed.

Maybe. When I think about it, there is no correlation between guys who push for sex on the 3-4th date and whether or not they ride a motorcycle. Notice that I'm not making assumptions about other riders... My friends who are riders are also happily married.

But I am going to have to say that something changes in the expression of guys when I tell them I ride my own motorcycle. It was a little confusing at first... but yea, alot of times their demeanor changes.

It's hard to describe. I only mention the pushing for sex early because that is how I perceive their actions changing. Tough to describe words and overall demeanor. Its like they decide they don't need to give me time to get to know them anymore... even though they were doing a good job of it before.

Or they become more macho. Like they have this pressure to 'tame' me or something. I noticed the same thing when I used to tell men what I did for a living or anything about my credentials. There is a lot I have to hide or put to the side for another time so that the average guy I'm getting to know doesn't feel intimidated or doesn't feel like putting on the macho mask.

I don't like it.

Thanks for the feedback. Hope you had a nice holiday too! I spent most of the day canning what's left of the apples I bought in October, making dark chocolate covered bacon (that is some good shyte!), and visiting friends. Made a video on Facebook for my friends and family too... Me playing an Xmas version of "Heart and Soul" on the antique piano one of my friends gave me after she had a stroke last year.

I hope women who ride boats and jet skis are just as happy because I introduced those things to my wife.

She drives them herself?

I was sailing my own boats (have a license to charter them) long before I owned my own motorcycle. I would again if I lived near the ocean. Lake sailing sucks. Plus I'm spoiled by warm weather and warm waters down South.

That's great that you introduced those things to her... Everyone has to start somewhere!

My dad is quite the renaissance man and introduced me and my sis to a lot of those things. My mom is pretty cool too. She was right there with him doing all these adventurous things.
