David20 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Recently, I broke up with my girlfriend. We haven’t contacted for the last ten days, no text messages, no phone calls, no chatting, etc. However, she sent me a text message today, which reads, “Being near is not the meaning of being dear. I may be far from you but feel that I always REMEMBER YOU!” English is my third language and, sometimes, I am unable to comprehend some old adages or difficult sentences. Please help me explain the meaning of “Being near is not the meaning of being dear.” What does she mean by that? By the way, she is a native speaker. Thanks!
soccerrprp Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 You don't have to be in close proximity to someone to feel/show that you care for them.
sad_bubble Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 please just don't overanalyse her message. Read what happened to me: I love my ex so much, but he was so mean to me, when I finally could not take this any longer, i kicked him out of our house. then in a month time he started sending alike messages. I replied saying, that I cannot be his friend, as I love him and there was too much harm done. He used to text "you never know what could happen in the future. just give me time to sort out issues, then we will talk and see.." but if we met up, he NEVER wanted to talk. Just hugged me saying that he is tired and needs time, and then used to leave. you know what is the end? once he realised that I still love him, and could consider getting back together, he cut off all the contact with me. Please don't fall in the same trap. Some people send mixed signals until it helps them to finally move on. and at the end only you will feel used.
Chi townD Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 It's a common SMS quote and I think it's Indian in origin. I speculate that it was about closure because she left out the last line of the quote, "TAKE CARE" Thus, it's a "Take care of yourself" SMS quote.
