baker23 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I'm thinking of biting the bullet and sign up for online dating Any ideas on what site would be best and why? Is it acceptable to sign up to different sites? Thanks for your replies.

WP4046 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I also use POF. It's the best free site around. Although whether or not it actually works is another story... I seem to find more long distance pen pals than dates. Nothing wrong with a long distance penpal if she is attractive and willing to meet in the future POF, has it all. I just signed up 1 hour ago and already got 2 messages
Author baker23 Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Thanks, I'm a bit wary of online dating but I think is the best thing since I seem to have tunnel vision when I'm out and about; I think it would be hard meeting someone the typical way. I met my ex at school; I'm self employed and deal with mostly females on a daily basis, so there's no chance of meeting someone at work. Online is the next best thing.
nescafe1982 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I met my BF on OKC. I also have several friends that found their significant others (boyfriends/girlfriends, fiances, spouses) on OKC. In my city, POF wasn't used, and to the extent that it was, it was a hookup site (was in Boston at the time). I think maybe these things are regional... I think it's totally acceptable to use more than one. But it could get to be a lot to keep up with.

I think it's totally acceptable to use more than one. But it could get to be a lot to keep up with. Plenty of fish was mostly used as a hookup site in my experience. There's one associate I spoke with who enjoyed bragging about his twenty conquests from POF in different states. I don't think it's a regional matter. I've given online dating a shot and different websites have different communities. POF is more #YOLO & Swagger than respectability. The dating site has a forum, too, and most the community at large struggled to figure out what Khaki pants are in one popular discussion. I think one guy wanted to attend a wedding but has never worn a suit before in his life. So he wanted to figure out what khakis look like and a lot of people became confused. While others became infuriated with the idea of cleaning yourself up before a date to be presentable. Yeah. That forum discussion reflects my experiences there. OKcupid is has a larger community and the profiles usually contain more details. Searching for anything specific is easier to accomplish on this site. Paid websites such as Eharmony sort out most of the people who are uninterested in meeting up for a date. People who feel less committed to actually date will flock to free dating sites. 4

I agree that you may have a better chance when you use a pay site but it depends on the price. $60 is too damm high for a membership on eharmony when u can't even see what the women look like before paying My limit is $19.95 1

You kind of get what you pay for. My current gf is from EH and the best dates for me have been from EH. In fact, all of the EH dates i've had have been good to great. Match is second. Both sites have plenty of attractive people.

soccerrprp Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 $60 is just too much money up front Certainly not if you find someone. $60 for how long? And, again, you kind of get what you pay for.

Thegreatestthing Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I like pof,I use to use okcupid, pof is better,I am so glad I joined.

CarrieT Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I dated a LOT of men on OKCupid, eHarmony, Plenty-of-Fish, and Alt.Com, but ended up marrying a guy I met on CollarMe. We met because of our mutual desire for kink, but bonded over all the other things that make a relationship work. Go figure...
fortyninethousand322 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 There really aren't any good online dating sites. There are only "less bad" ones. POF and OKC are probably the top among the "less bad", because they're free and have a pretty decent selection of users. Pay sites IMO aren't worth it. Who knows though, you might find different. As far as "hook up" sites go. There is no such thing. I'm on POF and Tinder, both of which are allegedly "hook up" sites, but I've never been solicited for such a thing ever...
Author baker23 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 Thanks for the replies. I know a couple of people who found signicant others on dating sites, but I also know plenty of people who have not had any luck with them. I also thought POF and OkCupid were mostly for people who wanted to hook up or be casual about dating since they are free. I know that I've to take online dating with a grain of salt and not be too serious about it. I have to admit though that it's scary; I never thought I would end up looking for romance online.
countryrider13 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I've visited different dating sites and like pof the best. That's where i meet my fiancee and we're so happy together. Good luck in your search

Are there any recent developments in your life to cause you to feel this way? You mustn't feel forced into doing things that are scary. Perhaps you might want to consider alternatives. How would you describe your life outside of work? Do you have friends who can introduce you to single men? Are there any social activities you participate in, or have thought of participating in?
Author baker23 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 I'm in my late 30's and coming off an 8 year relationship; like I said, I met my ex boyfriend in school and I know that dating has never been easy for me, as I said before having tunnel vision sometimes impedes my abilities to meet new people. My friends are all married with married friends and can't set me up with any single guys. I workout after work, but that's a about it. Even though online dating scares me, I think I might have a better chance of meeting people than through my everyday life. I'm still trying to digest the idea; I never thought it was going to come to this.
d0nnivain Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I too think for pay sites are better than the free ones if you want more than a hook up. You can join multiple sites but that can get confusing & make you look desperate. Then again, the people who "know" you are on multiple sites are also on multiple sites so . . . . If you search the internet you may be able to find coupons for discounts on the pay sites. I got my eharmony membership for 1/2 price.

Paid sites are better in my experience. People know how to spell. The reason it appears many people are on many websites is because they are all operated by the same company so if you are paying for more than one, you are getting ripped off. Always check the About Us link or Contact Us link to see who owns the site. Then google that company and you will see a list of their other dating websites. Check subscription fees for all of them and then join the cheapest one. You will automatically be features on all of the others whether you are a member or not and will still be able to contact anyone and they you as long as you are a subscriber to ONE of those sites. If you don't believe me, pick one person and look for their username on the affiliated sites. I plan to join one site that is $15 cheaper than some of the others.

I'm still doing my research, but I think I'll give myself a few more weeks before I take the plunge.
manders_01 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I prefer OKC. I feel like you get the most information and best jist about people. I don't feel like it's a hook up site at all even though it's free.
Eau Claire Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I met my guy on Match. I tried Eharmony...not much of a membership in my area. I think the region makes a big difference. Match is 'the site' in my city. OK Cupid elsewhere. People here on March were more into a healthy lifestyle, better educated than POF. POf is free so no downside joining up even if you try a paid service. Fitness Singles would have been my an option but, again, too limited in numbers. As for the cost. One hopes that 10, 30 or even 100 month wouldn't be the variable determining the site for an adult over 25 and in the work place. Finding a life partner was worth way more than a tank of gas or large pizza.
