By date I mean one on one activity, not with a group, and not "hanging out". But even if it is a first date with someone you never saw again, it counts as 1. I'm asking because I'm in my mid twenties and I have dated only 3 people, and having recently entered the dating pool after breaking up with my ex I feel like I'm out of my depth. Since that time I went on 2 dates with one girl and a first date with another last weekend, and I keep making schoolboy errors like calling at the wrong time, over-analyzing text messages, over-paying by going to posh places, not being firm enough, and forgetting to hold doors. Of course I went out with my ex many times but she was a strange one and far from representative of all women. So how many ppl have you dated, and how long does it take to get comfortable with taking women out ? Thanks.
Janesays Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 God, I couldn't even count first dates. Likely more than 40, less than 100. But if we are talking about people I dated seriously (more than 5 dates) I could probably narrow it down to 10 or 11. I'm 35.

A bit under 100 over the decades, probably in the seven dozen range, where the interactions were more than one meeting. IME, the uncomfortable part was all the 'no's' which were a magnitude more. Comparatively, 'taking women out' was pretty pleasant. Probably the only uncomfortable experience I had was agreeing to go out with a woman I knew to be married. That was back in my 20's and was a good learning experience. I'm 54 and have been married and didn't start dating in earnest until my 30's. LS would call that outlier or a late bloomer.

I really wouldn't count 1 date though. I've only had 4 boyfriends where we called each other bf and gf and were somewhat serious.

Are you not curious for advice on what didn't work in the past? Know what went wrong and you can change it for the future. Do what you always did and you will get what you always got.

I'm 21 I've been "official" with 2 girls each relationship was about 6 months both were in high school. I've dated (past one month) 5 women (including the ones I was official with) I've probably "dated" over 20 women with between 1 and maybe 6 dates. I tend to figure out if I want to date someone by dating them and I'm kind of picky. Only slept with 6 total, with one being a random hookup. Yes I know all their names. deathandtaxes Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 I'm 35, a little over a year post-divorce from an 11 year marriage. In that time I've gone on first dates with at least 24 women. Second dates with less, etc. Didn't date too many women before I was engaged. Guess I'm making up for that!
writergal Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 43, only 4 relationships, 2 of which were with men who lived abroad. No one night stands in my dating history. Dated a scary alcoholic briefly. Dated a guy with mental illness also briefly (he has schizophrenia, we're still friends though). Other than that, a lot of casual dates that either led to friendship or went nowhere. Not excited at the thought of marriage this late in life, so dating's not a top priority for me anymore.

If I only count guys I dated from high school onward, then it's around 25. That doesn't include guys I might have fooled around with but not really went out with, which would easily double that total.
