Marriage has always been seen as the defacto normal for how adults are supposed to live. Expected to live. So naturally, a lot of us feel bad about being single or divorced or just not attached to anyone.

But not only are you not alone, you're practically the majority.

USA:

The downside is, your likelihood of not ever finding anyone is significantly higher than even us cynics suspected, but hey - at least we're all going to grow old alone together.

I think the statistics represent the reduced expectations of society and the lessening of pressures to get married. In times past, females were looked down upon if they weren't married by their mid-twenties. That doesn't happen anymore. They are free to do whatever makes them happy. Lots of people are cool with being in a relationship, living together...or just being alone without a lot of hassles.

 

This is all a good thing. And I promise you, if somebody wants to be married they can find a suitable partner regardless of their age if they put effort into it.

 

The world has gotten much more accepting and free where marital status is concerned and that's a great thing.
