Recently a co-worker (just your typical low paying summer student job) and I became single. We were both previously on quite friendly terms and had been playfully told off for flirting with each other. Along comes the Christmas party and things become interesting. I'm still at odds of whether to pursue this but wanted to see what people on the outside would have thought about the interaction between us that night.

She was surprisingly shy and quiet around me over the night but we were more friendly with each other compared to everyone else - a lot more touchy; a hand on the arm, another on her lap. Our hi5s ended with us clasping each other's hands. As I am a therapist in training, I started giving everyone a massage and spent a bit longer massaging her. When she left, I was the only one she came up to to give a hug of which I lifted her up and spun her around for a bit playfully. Besides that everyone else really just sat around chatting with drinks.

I haven't been into work but do you think anything from that night between me and said girl could become work place rumours? How obvious would it be of chemistry between two people at a party like the above?

I had a similar scenario last week with a colleague. Work is now very awkward.

Yes, it could become work place rumours. That type of affection isn't subtle, really. Would it bother you if your colleagues knew you were into each other?

What happens between you and a colleague is absolutely no one else's god dam business. This could be the best thing ever or a mistake. Either way live life to the full and have no regrets. People don't bump into each other and fall in love all the time so you have to grab opportunities. Try keep it discreet though. Go for coffee outside of work and get to know each other slowly. Be great if you could help with mine as in similar situation to you!

So even though we may not have hung around each other much that night, even in a small gathering, most likely the boss and others would have picked up on our 'closeness'? Is it that easy to pick out two people liking each other?

Yes. You've already been 'told off' for flirting with each other. People notice this stuff! Whether rumors develop, who knows?

People are going to think there is something. Not knowing the situation I would at least think you were going for her if anything hadn't happened already.
