This is a unique one...I was sitting with a male, mid-50's guy...he says to me, "never date a single mother"

And I'm like "Dude, you're 55....are you serious?? The women you date have kids that are middle aged and long grown and out of the house with their OWN family and kids....why on earth would you say that?"

And he said apparently, there can be STILL some kind of "interference" you'd have to deal with even with adult children.

Not sure I understand his theory, but could ANYONE tell me the drawbacks of dating a single mother with middle-aged children?

My only guess is, he finds the grown daughter more attractive than his date? Who the hell knows what people are thinking anymore?

Not wanting to be a stepfather is normal - maybe he is afraid of the woman having her grandchildren over on a regular basis, which is also stupid because that's not a full time obligation.

Well the kids aren't middle aged yet and are possibly much younger. My father is 54 and my mother is 48 and though my middle sibling and I are in college my youngest brother is a sophomore in high school. I could see how that would be a turn off. I'd imagine he's looking for a wife and it would probably suck to walk into a combination of student debt and an angsty high school kid.

So there's that. Like I said in the other thread about being picky, as long as he realizes he's cut down the size of his dating pool and is ok with that why is this a problem?
