Blade96 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) Ok so after about two months of this flirting by the Russian guy I study with to learn Russian from, I asked him if he wanted more than a friendship with me. I am not good at flirting things and I needed to ask. So I did. He said that he had always said his goal is to study English. Yes, and my goal is to study Russian. That's why I met him in the first place. But, if he wants only friendship, then why all the flirting, complimenting, loving to talk to me every night until 4 in the morning his time, and the jealousy? He noticed again when I changed my profile pic and he had always told me how beautiful I was, smart, and lovely. When I changed my pic on Skype on Sunday, on Monday he said he immediately noticed. I said it seems that you always notice me, every time I change a picture. And he said "Even from the other side of the world." That all his behavior sounds like flirting to me. And it seems it sounds like flirting by loveshack standards also, judging by the responses I got from a couple of members here when I posted about him before and asked is this flirting - because I am garbage at it . We are still friends, but I am confused now? And embarrassed. Why flirt if your intention is just to learn a language and make a friend? I did not start liking him at first, I am studying Russian. And besides my flirting is garbage. But yeah Even in Russian I could hardly write to him when he said that because I am embarrassed. But yes what I wanna know is why would he flirt if all he wants is to make a new friend, and learn English? Edited December 18, 2013 by Blade96
Zahara Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Because it's fun, exciting...gives him something to look forward to aside from learning English. Flirting doesn't always mean that someone is looking for more than a friendship.
Author Blade96 Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 well it REALLY confused me. I would never even try flirting - even garbage flirting - unless I liked someone. Good thing we are both pretty mature and we are still friends. I don't think I was wrong to get confused and to ask. At least I hope not. Do you think I was wrong?

You weren't wrong for asking. It served you well because now you have your answer. It's always best to confront it if it is confusing you.
Author Blade96 Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 Well - I still have my good friend, at least. As I said He's the best when it comes to teaching me Russian and being a friend. gives him something to look forward to aside from learning English." - I never knew that. Of course I hadn't had Skype very long, and hadn't been skyping with Russians either for very long. I always thought that people don't flirt if they aren't interested. Guess I was wrong!
Untouchable_Fire Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Yes that is confusing. He is probably involved with another woman.
Author Blade96 Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) Meh. Doesn't matter if he is or isn't. We can still be friends, and learn our languages together. Just was quite confusing, that is all. And I wondered why he would do that. Edited December 18, 2013 by Blade96
Author Blade96 Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 (edited) Let me just say that I do not believe he lied. I believe he meant what he said. That he thinks I am smart, and beautiful. It is clear he enjoys me. That much is very obvious. We talk for hours nearly every week night. That is good, because it makes learning Russian more fun! I did enjoy the flirting also Everyone likes a compliment meant sincerely and I think this guy meant it, as I said he obviously enjoys me. Edited December 18, 2013 by Blade96
FitChick Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 He doesn't want a long distance relationship and knows nothing will come of it, but enjoys having a friend in another country. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe Russians are like Italians and very flirtatious.
Author Blade96 Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) I think you are right. actually. Very flirtatious. Anyway he is nice and is being a good friend and very caring about my Russian. He cares a lot about my Russian. So we will still be good friends and talk all the time - just as we always have. And if he flirts again I will just enjoy it. Because I do think he meant it the compliments. As I said he enjoys me. That much is very obvious. Edited December 19, 2013 by Blade96
