At the end I said 'this was nice maybe we should do this again' and he said 'maybe I don't know yet' what's that supposed to mean? And since then where he normally texts me first everyday, he hasn't text me and had given me short replies. I'm so confused, I want him back but I don't know what's going through his head. We were together 3 years and broke up 5ish months ago.

And it seems the answer, in his mind, is yes. Unless your ex is professing undying love for you and extreme remorse, once a BU it's usually for good. Rarely do people get back together after lengthy time apart. 1
