A week ago my ex (we've dated for 2 years now) and I got into a huge fight, I wanted reassurances that he would stand up to his family for me (his family, whom I never met, hate me because I am Brazilian but not raised in Brazil like he is and they want him to marry some family friend's daughter who is born and raised in Brazil). He told me that all he could say was he will talk to his parents about it over Christmas but he wouldn't make any guarantees that they would come around and he didn't say we would be together if they didn't come around so I got mad and during the fight, he wanted to get off the phone but I wouldn't let him so I asked if he wanted to break up. He asked me if I wanted to break up and I said no but that I wanted some assurances that we would be together despite what is family wants for him. He then said, "okay, yes, I want to break up, I want my peace of mind, this is nothing new, we have broken up and gotten back together before so this is nothing new". We have broken up twice before. He then said "yes, I want to break up I will let you know if anything changes" and he hung up. After a few days, i texted him saying i didn't want to fight anymore and he didn't respond so I texted him a few days later to ask for his help in moving to a new house, he responded as said, he wishes he could help but he's going out of town because he has family issues and he also congratulated me on my house and said he was happy for me. I responded thanking him and saying I was here if he needed me but no response. So my question is what now? Are we really broken up for good or is this temporary ? Will he ever come back? Should I text him to say safe travels ? I miss him so much but I don't want to come off desperate and fear I may have done too much already.

Do you really want to date a man who can't stand up to his family?
