ponchsox Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I think I'm doing prettying well recovering from my breakup but I have been having really upsetting nightmares about my ex GF. Anyone else suffer through these and how long did it take for them to stop?
Sevenscars Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Yeah. I've experienced them before. I posted about them here a bit over a year ago under a pseudonym. They were haunting and torturous at first, to the point I would panic, but then they faded. They'll stop when you resolve whatever issue you have going on that's causing those dreams. It'll happen naturally, probably. Best of luck. 1
Mario79 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 They come and go, and are not always nightmares, sometimes they are very pleasant dreams. And for some reason I always wake up at 2 am and think of her as well.
Nyclovin Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I'm on month 8 and they still haunt me every freaking night
jonsnuh Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 See a therapist and get this taken care of if you haven't already. Your quality of sleep is a priority. Your life shouldn't have any more time and your life source sapped. It will go away with time hopefully with the right treatment (i.e. CBT rewiring of the brain).
Peanut9330 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I think I'm doing prettying well recovering from my breakup but I have been having really upsetting nightmares about my ex GF. Anyone else suffer through these and how long did it take for them to stop? I remember going through that and it took a few weeks for it to stop. Then years later I started dreaming of my ex again, and in those dreams he would try to get back together with me ... talk about a nightmare!!! sadly though he did come back to my life and I can't seem to get rid of him. 6 years of NC and now I can't get him to leave me alone.
r321148 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 It's weird isn't it. Same thing happened to me. For a start I was pretty cut up and then after a week or so I was much better. For the next 2 months of NC, slept soundly got on with things and then... bang...she appears in my dreams! I wouldn't actually say they are nightmares though. They are usually quite nice...which is possibly worse as it makes me miss her!
Mariposa10 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 This also happened to me when my ex and I had recently broken up... I guess it's part of the process But here's the thing to keep in mind, soon you'll stop having them. I haven't had bad nightmares about my ex in a loong time!!
Sleepyhead Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 7 months NC and still having them. Less frequently but it's enough to make me spiral downwards for the next few days.
ScarlettWings Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 My ex left a week ago and i am suffering from horrible nightmares as well. m getting maybe a few hours of sleep a night. I havent found a cure yet but let me know if you find something that helps
MoooOinkBaaa Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I'll tell you what helps, sleeping on the floor. You never slept on the floor whilst you were together and it subconsciously changes the way you enter REM sleep. I've slept on the floor the last five days and not dreamt of my ex. Everyday before that she turned up in my dreams.
