I don't know anyone who does. Is it silly? I understand its like a pre-engagement ring...but is it really a big deal, a serious commitment to be given one? On one hand, I look at it like its not really a big deal, its not an engagement ring, but I've never had one or been in this type of relationship. I know he has never given one to any of his ex gfs who he dated for a long time, so i know its special. If i tell my friends and my parents I got one will they be thinking omg and take it as a huge deal? lol I mean, if we stay together does this mean he will actually propose to me one day? may seem like silly questions...lol
d0nnivain Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Promise rings don't mean much to most people. Perhaps your BF is different & I certainly don't want to rain on your parade but I've never known anybody who got or gave one who ended up married.

Wouldn't take it too seriously, anything said today is here-say, you have no idea what will occur between now and the future, so just take it as a positive thing and live in the moment if you want to soak it all up...don't ask questions if you don't want to hear the truths, most of the time fantasy is much much better. ExpatInItaly Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I got one from an ex, when I was about 20. It was special, but ultimately didn't say a thing about the nature of our relationship. Heck, even an engagement ring can't promise a future together. You could wear it as token of his admiration and love, but I wouldn't look at is a "pre-engagement" ring.

My first love gave me a small diamond promise ring when I was 16 and then another guy got me one when I was 21...this is a step down from engagement in my book. There are no guarantees in life so maybe not. I never ultimately got engaged with either party. But once both parties are settled in their careers it's pointless and it's time to stop playing house and put on the big boy pants and get officially engaged!
