ian1966 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 In Australia we get them, where you see two people in bed, with the caption "These people are married.." then "but not to each other".... followed by their catch-cry "Life is short. Have an affair". Are they in your part of the world? Since I was a "victim" (yes I know I am not an actual victim - note the double quotes please) of them, those ads trigger my BS no end... justifiably so... to the point where I avoid that channel / time of night on TV. Maybe there should be a marriage counseling ad on straight afterwards... Do these ads cause you (WS or BS) to become uncomfortable? Does it start A talk or silence or can you just ignore them?
dichotomy Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 To the best of my knowledge these don't appear on TV in the United States, but I have seen print and billboard adds. There was a discussion hear about triggers and affairs. It is hard to avoid movies or TV shows that feature them. We stopped watching one great miniseries on TV because it featured a mistress who was also cheating on her AP...it triggered things baldly. As a couple you need to face these head on when they happen. The BS needs to be honest about triggering, and the WW generous and apologetic.
lilmisscantbewrong Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Geese - I have never seen one of these ads here in ht US but anything is possible. That would be horrible to view.
tiredofitall2 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 They were playing them on late night TV. I've not seen them in some time. Maybe they have stopped them due to the controversy. Back then I didn't care. If I saw one now I would! 1
Ap22 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Never seen those but I can tell you that I cannot even watch anything where a man and woman are having sex or about to. The other day, my wife and I are working out together and I put the show Scandal on for her. During the show, the main character was having an affair with the President and his wife was calling looking for him while they were going at it. Its very awkward to watch anything like that with my wife in the room. I just put my head down and started pumping the iron faster. The ad that really triggers me bad is for the mini series Bonnie and Clyde here in the US. During the preview Bonnie steps out of the bathroom in lingerie doing a sexy pose. I just imagine my wife doing that for the OM and it rages me inside. 1
underwater2010 Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Have not seen one yet. However, the hotline and live met up commercials trigger me.
BoxOfRain Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Geese - I have never seen one of these ads here in ht US but anything is possible. That would be horrible to view. Have you ever seen the bumper sticker that's says "KILL YOUR TELEVISON?"
aliveagain Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 It started in Toronto Canada, I think 13 years ago BY SOME GUY NAMED BIDERMAN, who is happily married with children. NBC wisely blocked him from his attempt to sponsor The Super Bowl. A. M. is in every major country now promoting infidelity. He was sued by a former employee for some stress she suffered when A.M. entered Portugal and she was asked to make up a few thousand fictitious members. People should get together and advertise the number of family's going through a divorce because of them, that would take the romance away. 2
RightThere Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I can say as a BS, I find I trigger a bit to almost any kind of infidelity that appears in a movie or TV. Whenever a sitcom used to show it, I never thought twice about it, now I sit there and think "how inappropriate is that." I'm sure with time I will dull to it, but I think what the OP describes would be a really strong trigger for a BS. I'm sure if my spouse had cared about my feelings, we would have talked openly about it. I would have been an important part of getting through good reconciliation.
JourneyLady Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I hate them with a passion. However, I have an account on there (unpaid) with no pictures to check out the guys I get contacted by on other real dating sites. Mostly I get emails showing new sign-ups in my area and I look to see if any of the guys I've gotten profiles from are in there. If they are, I block them. I won't date married or separated men - ever. And I don't condone or assist cheaters either. I know there's no way to put that kind of stuff back in the box, but I sure wish we could. I wish IT services would refuse to host them and stuff, but I guess there will always be someone willing to take their money...
BoxOfRain Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I have an unpaid account as well because I was trying to find WW's profile. I'll be damned if I'll give them $50 to see photos. 1

BoxOfRain Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I'd settle for finding out her user name, but I can't get into the cheater email account she uses. I'm not sure it's worth forming over the money to see my lawfully wedded slut on AM.

I'm not sure it's worth forming over the money to see my lawfully wedded slut on AM.[/ Do you think she still has the profile ? She might have deleted it after Dday. Truth is, instead of searching for accounts, I could better spend my time thinking happy thoughts and playing music. She can stay as sick as she wants as long as she's willing to pay the price. I'll probably have the "Niagara Falls" reaction to hearing about AM for years to come.
dichotomy Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I actually saw a TV spot the other night. Was in bed with my wife, not sure she knew what was on during the commercial. Something to do with the marriage and being zombies and wife went out and got turned back in to a hot woman by cheating. For second I was thinking myself - what is this commercial about ? and then the Ashley Madison name flashed....Sigh.....
Woggle Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 This stuff is mainstream and we wonder why some people think marriage just isn't worth it anymore. 2

You might be able to find her profile by using AM to search your local area but she may have just taken herself off the market, so to speak. That assuming that you care.
carhill Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I'm a fMM and find the AFF (Adult Friend Finder) ads that I've seen on my satellite channels to be ludicrous and offensive but that's the nature of business. Where there's money to be made, even if from people's personal pain, there's someone lining up to do it.
Jenga Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 The underlying message to AM's marketing is that if you are unhappy or bored with your marriage, an affair is the answer to your problems. It's essentially like saying if you are unhappy with your energy level, don't bother exercizing or eating healthy, just go smoke some crack instead. It's preposterous.

BetrayedH Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Wow - you pay it get on and pay to get off - amazing. It's easy enough (and free) to make the account inactive/unviewable but if you really want to delete it then yeah, cough up another $25. AM was the vehicle for my RA and I paid to delete it as a sort of boundary. I never wanted to be tempted to ever go there again. It's hard to talk about, not something I'm proud of. 1
