theediblewoman Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 After kissing my boyfriend good bye and leaving his place for work I get a call from him maybe 10 mins after leaving that his grandmother passed away. She lived with him an his family growing up so they're close and she was really sick. I just don't really know how to act in this kid of situation,I feel bad because maybe I should have called in sick to spend the day with him. I told him I'm sorry and that I love him on the phone and that he could he go take my dog for a walk if he felt like that would do him some good(which he likes doing). I also sent him a nice text. What else can I/should I do? I don't want to smother him,but I want him to know I'm there for him. Suggestions? Oh and I should mention all of his family is on the other side of Canada so I'm his family here.

That's all I would need.
d0nnivain Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Ask him what he wants / needs. It would be lovely if you could go home with him, assuming you are welcome, to support him during his time of need. If it's too early for you to "meet the family" send a card to his parents house & either flowers to the funeral home or something edible arrangements (do they have those in Canada?) to his parents house with a sympathy note.
Author theediblewoman Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 Thanks for the advice guys. I was going to stop by his favorite restaurant and get some take out and bring it to him after work and see if he wants company. Luckily I have tomorrow off too. I don't think he'll be able to go to the funeral unfortunately, he can't afford to take it off work or the ticket right now sending something to the family is a nice idea and yes I do believe we have edible arrangements here!
