Told a guy a guy I was seeing that I had herpes. I explained the story that I had contracted it from when I was very young, naive, and too trusting. Also how it was not that big of a deal according to my doctor, research, and own personal experience. He said he still really likes me and wants to see me. Keeper material?

Well done on being up front and honest about it. I dated a guy once who didn't tell me until many months down the track - but in his defence he was taking the pills so he knew I wouldn't contract it. I would've been more likely to catch it from one of the many ppl who have it but don't know they have it bc most ppl don't have symptoms or if they do they think it's something else and then it goes away and they forget about it.

The stigma attached to herpes is much worse than the actual virus. esp now there is medication to stop you getting it or passing it on, and also they're pretty close to bringing out a vaccine so it won't be anywhere near as big a deal bc ppl will just get the vaccine.

The major concern for us in the world right now is that AIDS is making a comeback, due to ease of hook-ups etc and since the 80s ppl have become complacent.

He sounds like a nice guy

You both may want to do some research, but I believe the antivirals greatly DECREASE the chance of passing it on. They don't eliminate that risk completely.

Kudos, OP, to your guy for being honest. Now, just be safe!

Yay for being up-front and honest about this. Some people are clearly not. I dated a woman who didn't tell me until the day after sex. She was obviously asymptomatic, but, needless to say, I ended it b/c she was upfront about it and risked my health w/o proper consideration. I got tested later and I am clean, thank goodness.

There is NO cure for genital herpes (yet). The anti-viral medication that this guy says he was using DOES NOT GUARANTEE that the virus will not pass to a partner. Though very helpful with symptoms, duration and chance of transfer, it does not guarantee that the virus will not transfer. In fact, studies show that some still contracted the virus while the other partner was in the middle of the antiviral regimen.

STILL USE CONDOMS.
