Asking a girl out I haven't spoken to in over a year

We worked on a class project together about a year and a half ago. I ran into her on campus last spring and we exchanged friendly smiles a couple of times, but no real conversations.

 

I'd just be a quick message..something like "hey chloe we should go on a date sometime!"

You've got nothing to lose, but it's better if you can chat with her a bit first. Let it lead up to asking her out. I'd have been confused if I suddenly got a message like that from somebody I hadn't spoken to in over a year.
