I've been dating a girl for the better part of 8 months and we recently moved in together. She's in her late twenties, independent, whitty, strong but quiet... many qualities I'm drawn to and admire. But in the last month or so, I guess because she's gotten comfortable, I've noticed a habit she's been indulging in. Thumb sucking. Not the occasional play with your fingers or bite your thumb, I mean full-on thumb sucking. Before, she would always sleep with a wad of 1 or 2 t-shirts, which I wrote off as a comfort thing. Now, that has evolved to sucking her thumb while holding that wadded t-shirt (with a 'tail' of t-shirt sticking out between her fingers) while she rubs her arm and face with it. From the time I get home from the office until the time we go to bed, I would say she spends about 80% of her time with her thumb in her mouth. I've made comments about it jokingly to test the waters on her sensitivity and she doesn't seem to get defensive about it. I've also asked if she was stressed because she was doing it so often. But I'm ready to graduate to conversation, I just don't know how. Before, we had a great sex life. Now, I literally feel like I'm sitting next to a 2-year old on the couch as I look over and she's in her own world, rubbing her t-shirt all over her hands/arms/face with her thumb in mouth. Needless to say, I have no motivation or desire to snap her out of this child-like trance and have adult fun time. Aside from the libido-kill I've experienced, it just weirds me out. WHAT DO I DO?!

I can't bring myself to pull it out in the middle of a serious thumb-nursing session. I wasn't exaggerating when I said I feel like I'm sitting next to a 2 year old during these episodes. I'm going to have to address it soon. We go to bed and she starts right back in while we watch TV, trying to fall asleep... I find myself glued to my side of the bed. This is becoming unhealthy.
