How should I proceed?

So I met a guy online. We went out for drinks after only messaging back and forth for about a day. It went really well as we had lots in common and seemed to have some chemistry. Drinks lasted almost three hours. He asked me out for that Friday (two days later) and I agreed.

So we go out Friday for dinner and then to listen to some live music after. Again things went pretty well as the date lasted four hours. We split dinner and he paid for drinks and cover at the bar after (which I'm absolutely fine with). The date ended with us making out in his car like teenagers haha. He left it with we'll do this again real soon. Typically that would be kind of a warning sign to me but he knows I'm leaving town Wed through Sun for the holidays so who knows.

I texted him the next day to let him know I had fun and he responded he did as well. No contact Sunday so I texted him this morning. He responded immediately and we chatted a bit. I have a few reservations about him but I would like to go out again since we do seem to hit it off when we are together. I'm just not sure how to proceed while I am away. Should I just wait and see if he contacts me or continue to text every other day or so just to say hi. I'm just kinda having a hard time gauging his interest level.

i was in your situation recently, though i was on the opposite side. the guy i'm talking to was going away for a conference and i was the one unsure how to proceed during that time. i was just honest, and it paid off. i think you should be too. in my situation, we ended up talking the night before he left for the conference. at the end of the conversation i said something along the lines of "i don't want to bother you during your conference, so it's up to you if you want to talk or not." he replied that he'd like to talk and that he'd make time, and he did. it was nice. so just be honest! maybe say something like "i really wouldn't mind talking while i'm away if that's ok with you." or something similar. be somewhat diplomatic in a way that leaves the ball in his court. this way, he knows you'd be happy to hear from him and it gives him the angle to contact you first.
