Naive Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 I hear that drinking 8-9 (8 ounces) glasses of water is good for the body, even I tell people, but I don't really know what are all the benefits of drinking water!!! What can water do for me???
Barby Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 From what I understand water helps to cleanse the system of toxins, it helps to nourish your skin and hair. Helps prevent dry skin/hair. It helps to curb your appetite, basically it's just overall good for you. You're supposed to have 64 fluid ounces a day. I found this hopefully it'll help.... We have been told for years about the importance of drinking plenty of water every day. 70% of our body is composed of water, in fact no life could exist on earth without water. How does water work in our body? It helps us digest food, maintain proper body temperature, gives our lungs the moisture we need to breathe, provides for the form and function of our body's 100 trillion cells, it is the primary ingredient in all bodily fluids including blood supply, lymph, saliva, glandular secretions and cerebrospinal fluid, to name a few things water does in the body. Water constitutes, regulates, flows through, cleanses and helps nourish every single part of your body.
johan Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 I like to swim in it. Sometimes I bathe in it.
tiki Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Skin baby, skin! It'll make your skin beautiful. It'll keep that complexion clear. It also is a good cleansing tool. It's the perfect medicine for a lot! It's calorie-free, tasteless (well, hopefully) and FREE! Well, unless you buy the bottled stuff...which I am guilty of. It's also very therapeutic. I love to swim in it, bathe in it, everything! It's a cure for what ails ya.
Author Naive Posted December 28, 2004 Author Posted December 28, 2004 Thank you so much for letting me know.
Author Naive Posted December 28, 2004 Author Posted December 28, 2004 Okay so I have been drinking all this water today and I feel like going to the restroom every 20 minutes This is so not funny. I keep feeling like someon e is pressuring my bladder.
Barby Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 That's normal but once your body gets used to the higher intake of water then you won't have to "go" so much...I had the same problem at first but once my body got used to the amount of water I was drinking on a daily basis, things got back to normal...but you're also flushing out your system of toxins, ect each and every time you go to the rest room.
Author Naive Posted December 28, 2004 Author Posted December 28, 2004 Well I have let go a thousands of toxins already and I'm about to go again
tiki Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 You're body will get used to it. I've heard that too. The lady I work with drinks like 6 glasses here at the office each day, she rarely goes. She keeps 2 gallons of water in the fridge at all times.
Author Naive Posted December 28, 2004 Author Posted December 28, 2004 I already dranked about 9 glasses, I think that is enough for today.

Barby Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Hahaha but after awhile of drinking all this lovely water, you'll be having awesome skin and hair, feeling great, and not having to P as much! hahaha! The first week or so is rough but it is sooooooooo worth it!
tanbark813 Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 In addition to everything listed by other posters, water is also important because it's involved in almost every biochemical process in your body. For all the metabolic reactions in your body to occur most efficiently, you need a significant supply of water to your system.

gridiron Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 While we are on this topic, there is a condition called hyponatremia that can result from drinking too much water too fast, not just causing you to throw it up, but can have other effects too. http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm I never had anything serious, but one time after running in a 5K race and during a diet a couple of years ago when I was determined to flood myself with water, thinking that if it was too much, it would just come out anyway, I probably drank almost a gallon in one setting. I felt really bloated and sick afterward. So keep in mind there is a point where there are diminshing returns. And if you are going to drink a lot of water after a long exercise session of any kind, drink a bottle of gatorade or other sports drink too so you get the electrolytes you need to keep a healthy balance.
Author Naive Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 Thanks for the 411 gridiron, that's always good to know.
